Found today by police, at 5.30am, loose on the busy main road near Dickenson Road market. Has saddle sweat marks, so looks like it has been ridden in the last few days and feet are in good condition.

Poor thing has had a terrifying morning and is lucky not to have been killed.

It is now tucked up eating in my stable. Does anyone know who owns it? There have been financial costs in recovering the pony and we are keen to find the owner before the bills mount up.

Please PM me or ring the police on 101 if you have any information.

Thanks

Not yet. saturday is an expensive time for a vet. I thought of getting the dog warden to scan it, but the council are shut until monday. I'll give them a ring then if i can't find the owner. It was found at 5.30 am, I assumed that maybe the owner would have checked on it and found it missing by now. If it has been abandoned I'll probably keep it. It's such a shame :(

I don't understand why you are financially liable for this horse? If the police recovered him, and asked you to take him in, but expect you to bear the costs - they are taking the p massively!

Agree with Auslander, they should have contacted RSPCA to collect pony who would have scanned, vet checked and taken pony in till owner was found (in theory) have you posted on the popular fb sites? Pony could have come from anywhere so dosnt mean owner hasn't reported it, just that it was reported to a different station (they rarely comunicate with each other)

I'm think I had a similar situation to the OP once. Pony found, police asked for it to be kept safe until owner located however once on your property is deemed in your care and you are responsible 😏 I kid you not. My conversation bounced between police, RSPCA, whw and council.
RSPCA- ponys being cared for not our concern, same response from whw.

Police- well can only get involved if on road, err no it was on the road and you came on to my property and asked me to take care of pony for one night. This turned into 'well pony is safe with you so can stay as long as it wants on your expense' o and if the pony was found to be loose again I would be in trouble as pony was noted as last seen in my care!

Council- not intrested as it was now off their land. Turned out it had been tethered on their land but slipped tether.

Four days later and cloak and dagger conversations with many gypsy folk a bloke came and got him.

Four days free livery and me much wiser as to 'just be a good sport and help us out for a night'

Hope the owner comes forward soon OP!

Our YO was called out by police to catch and box up 3 loose horses and ponies around 2 yrs ago, this they did, brought them back to yard and put them in a far away field as they looked in poor state!! Lice ect, none of us wanted them near our horses, police said they would contact RSPCA !!! Laughed at that comment...
Well owner was found and it was agreed the owner would find transport and pay YO for hay and feed and time and trouble... Then the b####y owner went to the field at 4 am one morning, cut the padlock and chain on the gate and 'stole" his ponies away without paying!!! It cost our YO for 9 days hay and feed for 3 over £100 when reported to police they did a criminal damage report for damage to the gate and they never heard anything again... Several months later another call from police... 2 horses on the bypass can you help... No.. Call the RSPCA was the swift reply..
