Found my potential horse!

So last week I tried a TB and as expected not the horse for me, needed something much more sane and a confidence giver
Today I tried a nice chunky 15.1hh cob and I felt super relaxed on him. We hacked him out alone and unfortunately there was no schooling facilities but from what I gather he isn't particularly well schooled as he came from a trekking centre. But he was very laid back, good manners on the ground, spent some time in the stable with him grooming etc and also tacked him up. Overall good vibes and i think he could be the one. But now the price. I originally wanted to spend 5k, this chap is 6.5k and doesn't come with any tack so its a big stretch for me.
Its been a while since i purchased a horse and obviously prices have increased immensely so is 6.5k a reasonable price for a 15.1hh ex trekking centre cob? 11 year old gelding, passported, vaccinated, shod (let me pick all 4 feet up) should i try negotiate the price? They had two cobs from the same place, very similar and one had sold today for this price. Thanks x

i’d definitely see if you can wiggle the price down, but in the current market that seems reasonable, and a horse you feel safe and comfortable with is invaluable!

Good hacking horses are hard to come by. I doubt you will get him for 5k unless he fails the vet.

I would not go and view horses if I could not afford the full asking price for as it will only lead to sadness if they will not accept an offer.

If they had another from the same place are they dealers? If so I would try and get into contact with the trekking centre to find out why they were sold.

Be prepared to pay what they want, but there’s no harm in asking them if theirs any wiggle room.

Make sure you get him vetted by a vet of YOUR choice not the dealers. If you don’t know one in the area ask on here for recommendations

Thanks everyone, yes after a bit of negotiating we agreed a price of 6k and I managed to get them to arrange and covers costs of transporting him to me. Theyre only 1hr 20 minutes away but still a saving for me.
Can only do a 2 stage vetting as they have absolutely no schooling facilities for a stage 5 to be carried out x

I hacked him out on some busy roads and just went in some open fields. This is actually what i wanted him for, not schooling. Just a safe sensible cob.

He looks very nice. I agree that bombproof hacking is my priority but I'm not sure how a dealer doesn't have vetting facilities. And would be suspicious about why?
