After a disastrous viewing last week of a thoroughbred mare, who was wonderful on the ground but apparently has been mucked about somewhat awful ridden, we went back to the drawing board and shortlisted a few more horses. Sent a few messages out, phoned a few people, got no responses, and then last night we went back to one we'd previously discounted due to ad wording and messaged them, and today we went to see him.
Pending a smooth transaction tomorrow, I am the very pleased owner of a seal brown thoroughbred gelding. 7 years old, believed to be un-raced but not entirely sure due to sketchy passport history (I will be ringing wetherbys once I get him to see if they have records), safe and sane. Shows talent at jumping and should make a good hunter, is well behaved enough for a hack around the village he'll be living at and is incredibly gentle. And loves attention. All the attention.
He's currently underweight due to extremely poor grazing (their YO has massively overstocked the field), and apparently he's a bit of a fussy eater so they've had trouble finding feed he'll eat happily. He's also not well muscled currently - his owner has spent a lot of time schooling him and getting him to use his back end, but she suffered a nasty fall from her youngster a couple of months ago and is currently unable to ride, but he should build it up pretty quickly.
I'm mucho excited. 8)
