I have had my 4 yr old a year now. I decided on the weekend to contact his old owner to get some knowldge of his history. This is what she replied:
"He arrived at a yard where I was working at as a 6 month old foal in an appauling condition. He was literally taken from his mum the same day, who was also in the trailer looking worse than him. He was completely traumatised, so riddled with lice that we had to clip him out fully. The vet came that night and gave him 2 injections and said if he was still standing in 48hrs there was a good chance of survival."
When I read that my heart broke in half - it explains so much about his nature and how he interacts with others. He is very spooky but at the same time very aggressive towards his herd. I think the fact he wasn't weaned off his mum says allot about what can happen to horses when they mature. I am so glad he has made it safe with me.
