Finished work at bit early tonight and went to the yard thinking that I would exercise the "easy" one - that's the rising 4 year old New Forest x cob which is only just reaching 14hh as opposed to the dippy 16.1hh TB mare.

I took her into the school, did a bit of long-reining and then thought that I'd do some free schooling. She's normally pretty good at freeschooling, but today decided she wanted to follow the horse heading out on a hack, and from virtually a standing start decided to jump the gate out of the school - which must be at least 3'6", if not higher. Unfortunately she didn't quite make it and became stranded on top of the gate and very sedately rocked backwards and forwards, before giving up and falling backwards, landing on her back like a stranded beetle. At this point I screamed and people came running out of the building to see what had happened. Fortunately she seems fine - fell onto a soft surface and can't see a mark on her, but it was a bit hair raising......next time I think I want an easy exercise session, I'll get the nutty TB out!!

opps lol xx`

I don't know if it's because she was born on the forest and has no perception of fear really, but she does seem to have the attitude of "if it's not open then I'll just go through it or over it - she's jumped out of her stable before and I now have to have a full grill on to stop her doing it again! xx

My forrester is the same.

Jumped out of the first two fields I had her in, jumped out of the field shelter.
Can tell by some skid marks in the current field that she went up to the fence (more than once) with a view to jump. But obviously chickened out at the last moment as the fence is about 5ft high and the landing was thick mud.

My last forrester jumped out of the field everyday when I first got him. I used to find him with the small herd of ponies who hung around the area. Never made a fuss about being caught, just preferred their company rather than the horses in the field until he got himself a girlfriend there.:D

It seems to be a forester thing then! Great! Thankfully she's been pretty good up to now in the field and hasn't attempted to jump out (touch wood), but I always make sure she's not left out til last as I'm pretty sure she would try it then. Mine's quite amazing really - she seems to get herself into some pickles and then just sorts herself out. She doesn't seem to feel any pain, ever. Not long after I got her, she managed to find some disused electric tape, which had been on the other side of a fence. It seems that she had developed an interest in it and somehow pulled it through, or over into the area she was in, and then wrapped herself in it. She was found by one of the other liveries just standing there waiting to be unravelled.....

Oh dear silly pony, it does scare me when they try to jump things they'll never make!

On the subject of disused tape, my haffy seems to think it resembles hay, and starts eating it. When I was re-hanging a bit of fence and put the tape on the floor, I turned round and she had ALL of it in her mouth with about a foot hanging out! I removed it and will keep her away from it unless it is actually being used! Strange how they become amused by such things!

Mmmm, we learnt that my daughters NF cross can jump he jumped the gate out of our field (about 4 ft 6) to chase after his mate in the forest that had gone out on a hack.
He landed on the road, ran down that and across the crossroads at the bottom before going into the forest on the same route that they had taken last time. Only the others hadnt !!!
We had the police out and the car drivers that he had missed , all looking for him then my daughter riding his best friend caught up with him. Fair frightened the bejesus out of me but we never leave him in the field if his best pal goes out . If we take him in the lorry that is fine though, he has never tried to follow us then.
If he has the arse he will jump all the internal fences to avoid being caught . We have to double fence everything but we do love him really

So you found out she can't jump then:confused::p

Glad she wasn't injured.

LOL!! Good point - however after I'd established she was ok, I put a little jump out in the school (but this time kept her on a lunge line!) and wow she loved it - made a lovely shape over it. Checked her all over this morning again and she is completely fine. :)
