This afternoon we passed a thin bewildered looking German Shepherd wandering along one of the main roads in the town centre.

We pulled over and called to her but she walked away and as we were blocking the road we had to move on. We did a loop round the one way system then saw her going into a car park that was chock a block with shoppers and obviously traffic. We drove round and eventually found her laid exhausted in a shop doorway. To cut a long story short we took her to the nearest vets who scanned her but couldn't find a microchip but kindly offered to take her to the rescue shelter this evening. She's a middle aged girl, incredibly thin but very sweet natured and has obviously been someone's pet as she was giving a paw and asking for more biscuits when she was fed at the vets.

I'm not able to offer her a home myself but hoped that someone off her may know where she's come from or step in and offer her one as I'm not sure what the rescue policy is and how long before she'll be PTS. The rescue is Cliffe Kennels in Barnsley and she'll be going there about 5pm.

Thank you for helping her...poor girl, so many people would have walked on & left her. I hope you find her owners if they deserve her back or new owners, worth contacting dog warden and police & local vets as well tho if she's thin & exhausted she many not be recently missing..before my boy came to me he had been injured & on the run for a month after being hit by a car & his owners at the time made precious little effort to find him.please keep us posted I know there are many GSD maffia on here so hopefully one of them will be able to step in...trully wonderful breed, thank you again for taking the time to help her xxx

Thanks SaharaS. The sad thing was that people were stepping over her in their hurry to get to the bargains in the shop as she was lying flat out in the doorway.I do hope someone come forward for her.

Thank you for helping her. I will post this info on my facebook, have quite a few GSD friends in that area. Would you be able to put her details as found on Dog Lost, if not let me know and I will try and do it.

Thank you for helping her.
It breaks my heart to think people are callous enough to just have stepped over her!!!!:mad::mad::mad:
I'm in no position to take her on myself (already having one waif and stray shepherd driving us potty ;)) but I hope someone else can, she sounds like she deserves a good home.
Keep us updated

I didn't know about looking for ear tattoo's and by now she should be on her way to the rescue. Hopefully they will know to check. I've just called at the vets to take a picture of her but the officious receptionist who arranged to take her to the rescue wouldn't allow me into the kennel area and unfortunately I was against the clock with a train to get my brother on so didn't have time to argue the toss!

A friend has passed her info onto the DogLost Yorkshire facebook page, getting shared a lot so fingers crossed an owner is found . It says on the Dog Lost page she is chipped, has a chip been found now do you know?

No, she was scanned and no chip found. Fingers crossed for her.xx

That was an error on my part and it won't let me change the details.

How do I find the Doglost FB page?

I've reported her to the dog warden and tried to ring the kennels for an update but there's no answer so I presume they're busy. I'll try again later.

Is she in the dog pound or an actual rescue? If she is in a pound and is not claimed in 7 days she will be at great danger of being PTS.

You have done such a lovely thing to rescue her when others were ignoring her....

Hmm, thats not so good. I don't have a problem with a rehoming fee charged but only if the vaccs etc have actually been done. Lets hope her owner is traced, there has apparently been a GSD missing in yorkshire for quite a while, the DogLost folk are trying to find out more.

I have put her details on GSD Rescue facebook page now as well.

Unless they have been taken over and i didnt know about it its a council run kennels, i can find out tom if it still is. They have two sep areas one side boarding other for strays. As ive said before they do PTS ( i have personally been part of it sadly unless i could get out of it ) but have been known to send to other kennels however alot are full at this time of year.

They may have changed the policy now and become a private kennels and Do keep them alot longer i will find out tomorrow.

Sorry, there have been so many people trying to help on this, I have been waiting to get some definite news. The downside is that so far her owner hasn't turned up, but thanks to the folk on BigGSD forum, a foster place has hopefully been found for her, failing that a space in a Gsd rescue kennel, she will be collected on Monday and she will be kept until the right home turns up. As a bonus when the kennels in Barnsley were contacted it seems they had 2 more GSDs in there, and they too will be collected and with any luck will soon find homes.
Once again, well done anniebags for taking the trouble to help this bitch. I have asked to be kept updated on her situation and if I hear anything will post on here.

Further update (knew I should have waited). It seems that her owner has possibly turned up, if she is his missing dog she is 11 years old bless her. I will update further when I know more.

Wow, I've gone all goosepimply! Thank you all so much for co-ordinating this and keeping me updated. You're an awesome bunch and it warms my cockles no end to know that no less than 3 dogs will have a really good start to the new year. God bless you all (doggies included)xx

Thats fab news and well done to the two kennels working with each other and possibly re homing 3 GSD, fingers crossed this will continue if more GSD come in. Also well done Murphysminder for sorting it out.

If the dog is lost and been missing a while, I bet their owner is over the moon, what a great start to the year for them both if thats the case :)
