Shown in snaffle bridles, what is smarter an eggbutt or loose ring ?

The little filly is going beautifully in her fulmer with a peanut but that is no good for her first showing outing, I just cannot decide which is the smarter bit.

I like both, but I'm not a shower. Would the eggbut provide more stability in her mouth, similar to the fulmer without the fulmer sides? If so she may prefer that to loose ring

Forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong!

I'd say an eggbutt might be the smarter, but a Fulmer is a loose ring, so she might prefer that. Only way to be sure, is try it and see.

I don't think it matters - get the best size bit rings regardless of whether they are eggbutt or loose ring.

Tbh, take her in the fulmer.
No point upsetting her.

I always take my youngsters out in thier fulmers and very rarely stand anywhere other than 1st or 2nd

I prefer a loose ring personally, in part as it is a more simple step into a double when the time comes, I saw a novice ridden in a full cheek today and it actually looked ok so if they are really happy in it I would not rule out using it for the first outing.

Full cheeks look grand on natives, never really paid much attention to horses so can't really imagine them in anything but doubles.

Go for the Fulmer first time out then see how you go from there.

This is my hunter at his first ridden show and only second ever show

We were 2nd in the ridden novice (16 horses in the class) and then 1st in the open ridden coloured.

To my eye the loose ring always looks more correct and gives tongue relief as the horse can move the mouth piece round the ring .

Eggbutt for me. Loose rings are supposed to be used with rubbers, although very few do nowadays, so I wouldn't use one in the showring. Also think eggbutts look more traditional, which has to be good thing for showing!
You can get eggbutts with a curved mouthpiece - lovely quiet bits with no nutcracker action, and plenty of tongue room.

The horse is a young horse being shown for the first time. The mouthpiece will be the same as she was broken in and remains in, which is a snaffle with a peanut in the centre. Nothing will change in her mouth.

Yes but an eggbut and loose ring can make the horse feel different. I'm sure you know/appreciate that. Ride at home in both and show in whatever they feel best in.

I think it depends on how much stability your horse requires in their mouth - an eggbut is a nice midway between a fulmer and a loose ring and the NS do some smart looking ones which aren't as bulky
