Fox Attacks - has the world gone mad???

The world has gone mad. Interesting that it seems a a suberban school and it seems a suberban problem; around here, the children would just say 'yeah, a fox, exciting not' and the head is more likely to get a gun out (or someone to use one before you all shout) but certainly not a pest officer who probably hasn't a clue anyway. They are escabrating (is that the word but likely not?) the problem by thinking they're cute and feeding them in their gardens; just what do they expect, it's a wild animal, it doesn't know boundaries. The stupidity of people never fails to astound me.

The world has indeed gone mad. Idiots. As if a fox would go near a playground full of shrieking kids? Even an urban one.

I agree, madness! I saw that on the local BBC page yesterday and couldn't believe it. OH pointed out that they may have been worried about parents kicking up a fuss about it but still, come on. There's a world of difference between a fox's reaction sleeping babies and to that of playground full of much bigger, noisier kids running around, I'm sure.
The comment that made me laugh the most was

A council spokeswoman said: "A fox was sighted in the school grounds earlier this week. The children were kept inside the school building as a precautionary measure.

"The schools acted in a routine way and in much the same way as they would have done had a dangerous dog been loose on the premises."

Uh, no, that's not a comparable situation at all!

Madness, poor foxies getting caught up in this rubbish! When I was at primary school the local hunt used to meet in the pub car park opposite our playground and hunt across the field adjacent to our sports field (which we played on at lunch time). We had a fox run across the field one lunchtime while we were paying football, didnt bother us, and the poor thing was terrified, as would most be faced with lots of youngsters screaming and shouting as they do at playtime!

Has the world gone mad? No, thank God. It just seems people in towns are becoming even more divorced from real life in the countryside. Very sad.

Well this is a story that is going to keep rolling on by the looks of it:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/10363646.stm

i would be investigating the playgroup if that were me, why were they not watching the children properly?

from what i gathered it was a small group of kids in a party.

thus there should of been ample play workers to supervise all the kids and not let them get into that situation.

anyone else?

For Gods sake!! hysteria or what!! The problem with urban foxes (or should I say humans) is that people try to tame 'this wild animal' by feeding them and encourageing them into their gardens and homes. The poor animals are getting conflicting messages they don't know they should fear us and stay wild. In the case of those poor babbies, one that had probably been encouraged by others wandered into the house and into the babbies room, if it heard a baby squeek or cry it might think they where animal young and fair game.
If my dog or cat wasn't aware that someone was going to stroke its tail and got a fright they might retaliate too.

Oh now this is ridiculous! I live in Llanishen ... which is full of parks, fields, there is a forestry around the corner - of course there are foxes around!

all the screaming kids would have scared it off especially kids this size (as opposed to the two babies that were attacked).

If they were that worried why didn't a teacher go and chase it off? Now the kids will think Foxes are something to be scared of and we will have loads of paranoid parents.

i have to say, since those poor babies were attacked, everyone does seem to have gone a bit paranoid and anything that could remotely look like a fox is being called a fox, i believe that the fox that resulted in these children being locked up in thier school was probably a dog or cat or something, as for the kiddy at play group it is possible that, unless seen by someone other than the child who it bit, the animal could have been a startled cat OR fox, foxes are definitley getting braver due to people thinking it is a good idea to help them or save them from the hunt or whatever they may be doing, th etruth is that unless people start to leave them alone, this include all the interferring anti hunts people and so on, urban foxes will become a really big problem and cases like this could become more and more often. theyre wild animals who can fend for themselves, with the hunts no longer able to restrict the numbers in the country side, they are now moving into urban areas to get food and becoming too brave. please people, for the sake of thses kiddies just stop feeding them and whatever else, make sure bin bags aren't just left lieing around and keep an eye on your kids and with time they will go back to the country where the hunt should be allowed to control them.
