Fox Terrier?

I was in Spain recently (lucky me) and as it was just before the season officially kicked off. So one afternoon drinking in a square (thats the life!) I saw several dogs being walked around. All in excellent nick I hasten to add before anyone thinks this is a tugging at the heartstrings post. One one around was an EBT bitch and a EBT puppy, both lovely and then a french couple came along with this incredibly gentille terrier - he looked like a long legged JRT, very fine coated, black and tan but had quite a pointed face. He was quite slim and seemed to almost point when he strutted around,

I was very taken with him and "think" the french couple said he was a fox terrier. Is this a breed or was my french too poor to translate correctly?
 
Yes fox terriers come in smooth or rough coated google them ...

We have fox terrier in our breed the Plummer terrier .(.see below)

...some plumers are linebred towards fox terrier and as you have seen have a longer nose

Crikey - the rough and smooth look very different! He was quite proud little dog trotting along, and suited his extremely well dressed owners very well! (whereas the EBT;s were just hell bent on offering kisses!

She didn't go to her usual groomers so she doesn't look as good :) you should see her before she gets groomed masses of curly fluff :D

Smooth fox terriers are so beautiful and are really the perfect show dog;if you want an elegant pet ,look no further,they are incredible.I had one called Lupin,from a very old line ,they prefer company ,and can go in for opera if left too long,and they can take a while to get used to car travel due to travel nausea.When I first started to show dogs I always wondered why the wires were traveled in enclosed wooden crates,and seemed to always have an entire leg wash at each show.Now I know it was because their drooling had to be washed off before the show ring ! If you read Beatrix Potter as a child,one Smooth Fox ran the Post Office in "The Pie and The Pattypan" It wore a pair of delicate "pence-nez" spectacles balanced on the very end of that long long nose.
The ultimate show dog ,they almost float along in their elevated trot.

The pic of Izzy? I thought lakeland terriers were black and tan not white, black and tan?

She doesn't have a show quality coat (faded as she is clipped not stripped) but she is a wire fox terrier :D

You are right Jake10, Lakelands are only allowed to have a tiny bit of white on and even that is frowned on I think. Izzy definitely looks to be a Wire Fox to me, just without an extreme show trim.
And from the further description I would say the dog OP saw sounds like a Smooth fox terrier.
