Hi all,

I am looking to get experiences off those who have been in my position. Please note I have all the advice from the vet and MRI consultant but sometimes it's handy to hear real life stories.

My gelding came in hopping lame on his hind leg about 3 weeks ago, it was a suspected abscess and in fact after a bit of prodding we found a slight infection but after 5 days of poulticing I was convinced something else was wrong so I asked vets to take an x-ray, they did this and found a fracture to the pedal bone. He was then referred for a MRI in case any soft tissue had been damaged in the process.

Results were back yesterday, he has quite a nasty fracture which is displaced and has slightly damaged the coffin joint. The consultant has suggested 3 initial months box rest and then re x-ray to re-assess whether anymore box rest is required or whether he can be turned out into a small paddock. He will need 9 months off in total for the fracture to heal before we think about starting to get back on board.

What I am looking for is anyone who has had a similar injury, how is your horse now?

How did you deal with the box rest? My boy is already climbing the walls and being aggressive even on Sedalin :( He has a mirror, radio and ab lib hay but any other advice gratefully received.

Many thanks
