fractured poll

has any one had experience of a horse that has had a fractured poll?? recovery, any complications etc???
recently bought what I was lead to believe was a sound healthy horse but a couple of days later was alerted to the fact the horse had sustained several cuts and scrapes to it's legs and face and a severe head wound and fractured poll in a riding accident. I have no other information of said injury or the horses recovery up to this point so I'm absolutely in the dark. she was sold to me for hacking and long distance rides but I'm concerned for her welfare surely this kind of injury could cause muscular and skeletal problems as well as neurological?? any help or info greatly received as I've only found bad news on the web!
 
I hope you had it vetted before purchase in which case I would expect there is nothing of concern and that everything has healed up well, the person that gave you this information may just have been stirring up trouble as they often do, as long as it got the correct treatment at the time, appropriate after care and has been ridden regularly with no issues since, I would try and put it behind you as often fairly dramatic looking and sounding injuries leave absolutely no long lasting signs.

If you did not bother getting it vetted then maybe get a vet to take a look to put your mind at rest, looking at google when you only have a few vague possibly exaggerated details will not be helpful and is best left alone.
 
The poll isn't a bone so can't be fractured? If there was a fracture then it would be the skull or the first cervical vertebra. I guess an x-ray would be your starting point to confirm this. As for other associated issues, presumably they would be showing themselevs in the horse's behaviour now?
 
it was described as a poll fracture but obviously without information from former owners vet I don't & wont know anymore of the extent of the injury. basically horse went head first at the floor in canter and it didn't look pretty... my vet said he'd never come across a poll fracture but didn't say it wasn't possible and his first concern is neurological damage and then spinal etc and contributory arthritis later in life?? just interested to hear anything positive about this horse's future just sad that a huge part of her medical history was apparently forgotten no horse deserves that in my opinion
