My horse has been diagnosed with a fractured sesamoid bone and will be having surgery in a couple of days. Has anyone experienced this at all and can offer any help or long term prognosis?

Sorry, I have no experience of this particular injury. I just wanted to wish you and your horse all the best.

Good vibes being sent your way for a successful operation and recovery.

I had a clydesdale x tb who was diagnosed with a broken sesamoid bone fraid she had to be retired at 7 yrs old.Even after a couple of yrs off she would stay field sound but would go lame when ridden.Yours may be slightly different tho as an operation wasn't even mentioned in her case.Sorry couldn't be more positive or helpful.
What has your vet said about it?

I rode a horse with a fractured sesamoid - he is actually a lead pony, works 2-3 hours a day, trotting and cantering - laziest horse ever though!
