Hi,I'm new to this forum so please be gentle!

My Shire gelding who is only 8 is at Rossdales in Newmarket at the moment having a mild lameness investigated. Hes been nerve blocked (come back clear) and had a bone scan last Friday. The vet has diagonsed a sidebone but things he may have fractured it. Hoss is having an MRI on Monday to confirm it.

I was just wondering had anyone here experienced a fractured sidebone on a heavy type? Did the horse come sound and were you able to continue working at all? The plan with Jack was to work in chains, compete in harness classes and also do ridden work but I don't know how much I can realistically expect. I know I should wait for the vet but you know what its like!

There is a horse on our yard who fractured a sidebone about 3 or 4 years ago.

She had box rest for a few months followed by controlled exercise. She is not a heavy type but an Irish Sports horse and is about 10 years old now.

Don't despair. She is now competing at Novice BE eventing!
