My mare fractured her splint bone in two places last september and is now coming back into work.
Ive been trotting her for a couple of weeks now and she feels fab, but my question is, when can I start abit of canter work?
She absolutly full of it in trot so Im thinking she needs to be doing abit more now.
What do you all think?
My plan was to trot her all this week, then try a canter at the weekend.

My mare fractured her splint bone in june last year. after her surgery she had 4 months off work. she came back into work in beginning of novemberdone 4 weeks of walk then short burst of trot building it up etc and she only got her first canter last week under vets advice. i was told by the vet that although she was sound there would still be healing going on in the inside so it was important not to over do it.it is hard to keep to a steady pace but if she was my horse i would do another couple of weeks before thinking of canter as you want her to fully recover and have no problems in the future. you can also workon lots of transitions etc in the school and do some walk trot dressage tests when you are schooling to keep her thinking. hope this helps and good luck with her
