My horse has recently had an operation to remove a fractured splint bone after being kicked in the field. Her stiches are out today, then we have 4 weeks box rest minimum ahead of us!

My mare had this operation in August last year and is fine now. We did at least 12 weeks pen rest and then weekly water treadmill for 6 weeks and then started walk under saddle. She had a very swollen leg and pressure bandages on for 6 weeks. It is a long healing process but now the leg looks perfect. Don't rush anything.

Thanks for your reply! stiches were supposed to come out today but the vet said no as there is an infection and the skin has not come together because of it, so more antibiotics and they are back Monday! so fingers crossed. its not swollen and she is walking sound so the vet is pleased in that respect
