Hi all, not something I have any experience of. Can anyone give me a very rough idea of price please - South of France to Cheshire, approx 900 miles.

Any companies you could recommend? Many thanks

Depends how many horses, whether you want a shared box or a dedicated one (shared boxes can go all around the place like being on a long bus route and we found to be more stressful on the horse).

I would highly recommend John Parker International, they have just moved our four horses from Lancashire to Southern Denmark (1,000ish miles), their service was faultless. Be aware if you want/best route is for your horse/horses to come over via the Chunnel you must use certain companies (Parker’s being one, another is Peden Bloodstocks), as they have to have independent ventilation systems that can run for four hours (I guess in case Of a breakdown in the Chunnel).

Give Parkers a call as the girls in the office are fabulous. If I recall it was roughly £1,000+VAT per partition, plus ministry vet fees for a shared load for us. We opted for dedicated transport and I think it was around £8k (for four horses, dedicated driver, staying two nights at their yard and an overnight stop in Germany.

Hope this helps.

It depends on the carrier and whether it is a shared or single load. Having used Parker’s several times with a distance around half yours the cost for everything, all vet checks at borders, overnight layovers in approved stables, tunnel cost, a night in Kent and then onward transport to me in Oxfordshire was around £450. If you contact them they will give you a quote pretty quickly and they run lorries all through Europe weekly.

You will have to get a French state vet to sign your official travel papers within 48 hours of them picking the horse up which can be a bit nerve wracking as they have to be in date or they can’t be transported. Passports also have to travel with the horse and make sure the animal is fully insured for European travel.
