Franklin balls

I’m probably late to the party as always, but has anyone had any success using Franklin balls to help their seat? I tend to sit heavier on one side, because I have difficulty opening up that hip and it has been suggested that using Franklin balls could help but they are quite expensive for a set of them and I’m reluctant to shell out for them if they are just a gimmick.
 
I've used them. I find they give a similar feel to work without stirrups. I'd suggest trying to get a lesson with someone who knows what they're doing with them is useful if you can
 
Yes, we have a physio friend at the yard so are always being experimented with. I actually think these need the least input from someone on the ground...other than to pick them up ? my top tip would be only use them for 10 mins or so once you've warmed up then take them away to increase your proprioceptive feeling
 
I had a lesson with one, I thought it was extremely artificial, borderline dangerous on the particular horse I was on, and that work without stirrups was more beneficial.

You could always pick up some physio balls just to get a feel and see if you think they'll help.

As for dropping/loosing them use a pair of tights or similar to put balls in and put it across wither so you don't actually drop them to the floor.
Or small laundry bag add a clip/string and attach to D ring each side

this is a brilliant idea thank you - I already have some of these spiky balls and the sock/tights idea is genius.
 
I can't use them on my horse - she's far too sensitive.

I've been using Maeve Sheridan's 'Activate Your Seat' Programme off the horse though, and this had helped me no end in improving my seat. Its not only more independent and secure, but its almost like I'm 'unlocking buttons' and gradients of aids I've never had access too before.

I had a session with my personal trainer and mentioned the difficulties I have been having. Diagnosing the issue was pretty straightforward-in a dynamic hip adductor stretch I can move my right side 12-18 inches but I can barely move my left side 1-1.5 inches!!
Thought I would add this here in case anyone else is having similar issues. I will still try the Franklin balls but first I am going to try two weeks of intensive and frequent stretching and then a lesson with my instructor to see if she notices any (hopeful) improvements.

I'm a certified trainer in Franklin balls but originally I was very, very sceptical. I did the course because I had a "I don't care if it works or not, if that's what my clients want then that's what we'll do" sort of attitude. I had to buy some to use during the course, so decided I'd give them a go myself before the course started and I was gobsmacked by the result! The course again was amazing and I've had great results using them with my clients. They might not be for everybody, but they've definitely been a lot more "hit" than "miss" and now I really rate them. I also like them for unmounted sessions, and use them quite a bit when I'm doing pilates as well as for riding.
