Freak injuries

Lunging my shetland a few years ago I took my eye off her and she shot off pulling me over and breaking my elbow.......It was so embaressing going to the hospital & getting it xrayed and plastered when they asked me "how big was the horse?" my reply 40 inches high!!

Was putting on some bandages when the horse pulled a rug off the stable door, and spooked himself then kneeing myself in the face in the process! Hello black eyes :(

I was mucking out my mares stable one day. Her automatic waterer had broken, so she just had a big trug of water by the door, she is a really messy drinker, snd had dribbled loads of water all over the rubber matting at the front of the stable. I went into the stable to muck it out, slipped straight over backwards on the wet matting, hit my head on the wall, knocking myself out, then landed with my head in the tub of water. Being knocked out I was not aware of any of this. Luckily my horse noticed the open stable door, and decided to wander off across the yard. One of the others noticed the horse, came to return her to her stable and found me (managed to remove me from the tub of water!). I woke up in hospital about an hour and a half later, with a huge chunk out the back of my head, and no idea who or where I was. Luckily skull was intact and no lasting damage had been done. But I still reckon I must be the only person who has nearly drowned whilst mucking out!!!!!

I was sorting out a muck heap and managed to stab myself with the fork, straight through my riding boot, into my foot, and hit a bone. I didn't realise it had actually gone in, thought it had just bounced off my riding boot, so didn't take my boot off for about an hour. Saw I had a bright red sock, I called my mum, who thought I was joking, and she didn't come for about 2 hours!! When she saw my foot, she hot footed me to A&E haha!!

I was grooming my 17.2 monster when i turned away for a second and he bit me under my left arm where the bra strap sits!! I was only wearing a vest top as it was summer, he took off 3inch long piece of skin about 1 inch wide!! I thought i was going to pass out and had to sit down. Ive still got the scar. He nipped me a couuple of weeks ago on the bicep and left a permanent scar that looks like a dart board!! My friend years ago was leading her two horses to the field down a lane and one of them reared. She got her thumb caught in the headcollar and it ripped it off (after landing on gravel) and was hanging on by a thread not a pretty sight!!!

My son was helping Dad (aka Frank Spencer) with replacing the trailer floor. The floor was out and the spring that carries the weight of the ramp sprang up hitting the lad on the cheekbone. It still had the screws sticking out the end of it that had been holding it to the rotted floor. Que mad dash in ambulance to nearest hospital who refused to see him and sent us to the next hospital because of his eye. Four hours later they managed to ease the pain enough to open his eyelid and see if his eye was still in there. His eye was blood shot but his sight was intact. Took 27 stitches to sew both eyelids back together and repair the skin over the broken cheelbone.
6 weeks later the consultant cleared him to ride as long as he didnt fall off, put him on his 11hh shetlandx next day and she bucked him clean off straight over her head and he managed to get his shoulder on the floor first. didnt know how I would have explained that one to the doc:D

Skipping out on a winter evening with yard lights on and heavy rain, coming out of the stable lights fused with a 'pop', horse spooked and whipped around, unfortunately my face was in the way......fractured cheek-bone in four places, operation to have it reset and plated, two weeks off work and lots of pain!

Freak enough???

Found the cause of the fusing lights, someone had left a live cable exposed!

On Xmas eve a good few years ago i was tood on a mounting block plaiting up a friends horse ready for hunting, my own horse was all ready to go ........ i steppen backwards and missed the block totally and out my hand out to break my fall, it didnt just break my fal though, it broke my arm :(

Also got double barrelled in the ribs by a shire - i was beinging her in one evening and the electric fence clicked as we got close, she spooked, spun and booted me, broke 6 ribs and was very very painful

It didn't happen to me, but we did need to call the vet to stitch my TB's ear after he had got a "paper" cut from a leaf! The vet couldn't stop laughing :(

I have a couple.

I once had accrylic nails on, when I was dismouting I somehow got one finger hooked under the saddle as I slid down I pulled the nail off, along with my real nail. It was painful

I got bolted with and my leg went through a concrete guttering pipe on the corner of a building. My leg went through it and tore it off the wall. Didn't realise I had done any damadge until I saw the blood seeping through my jodpurs. Left a nice scar though.

I fell off an RS horse once, I fell of backwards, went through the wooden fence, went through 2 panels, the 3rd I hit but bouced off, fliped onto my front and headbutted the floor, the peak on my hat stopped my head gettin to hurt but I ended up with whiplash, my airwave had started to close as a result of the muscles seizing up in my neck. Ended up in hospital.

I once tripped over a Horse that was stood still and ended up in some stinging nettles, Not to self look where you are going!!

Another RS Horse Buggered of with me once in the School, I fell over his head and then he canterd over me, Trod on my thigh, trod on my stomache and kicked me in the back. Luckily I was unhurt and got back on. Although my back does play up these days :( I am only 21!!

Not my accident, but a friend of mine. Her Horse is the type that needs to have something done with him all the time, wether its riding or just TO, he hates to be stabled every day. She took him for a in hand walk as he had been coped up in his stable (Yo's rules) he got very excited, pulled away from her and bucked. Accidently got her in the face with both shod feet, resulted in a broken nose, fractured cheeckbone, teeth went through her lip, 2 black eyes and her top lip split open. Her head swelled up! She got rushed to hospital, luckily no brain damadge but doctors said if he had kicked an inch higher she would most likely be dead.

I nearly knocked my front teeth off whilst getting off once

I had my body protector on and got in caught on the saddle it came up and hit me in the chin so hard my teeth came loose

Ooh I forgot that one! I did that too but it was my throat that took the brunt, it hurt to swallow for weeks!!

Not horse related. I had a litter of lab puppies in one of my stables. Must confess I had a had a glass or two of wine and went to check them last thing at night and tripped over their bed which was made of very solid wood. I landed cest first on the edge of said bed. Thought 'that hurt' and went on to bed. Next morning I woke up and did a huge stretch and my ribs sort of 'pinged' absolute agony. I had sprung my ribs and had just put them back. Took months before they stopped hurting and the doctor said worse than breking them as I had wrenched all the muscle between the ribs.

I was leading a mare through the barn when a gelding in a passing stable bit her on the bum and she reared up somehow snapping one of my fingers in the process. It's still crooked :(

Gosh reading all that lot makes you not want to leave your house ever again.....!! Tore ligament in ankle carrying a bale of shavings to my car.... that really hurt....

Horse spooked going through a gap between front of car and tipper trailer (having already gone through that gap once already) decided to spook and shoved me against the back of the trailer breaking my arm.....

I then spent several hours in casualty apologising for the smell and explaing to people that I hadn't actually fallen off and that I was just leading the horse when it broke my arm.... 6 weeks in plaster.....

Bucked of horse last year... I remember getting on horse bolting off then getting up off the floor, don't remember getting off at all and my daughter saying to me look mum you broke the fence and bent the dressage marker, broken rib, severe bruising and hip still swollen... why do we do it.... I am not really sure....
