Free 5 week course in equine nutrition

Another who has just signed up! I did anatomy and nutrition at college but that was 8 years ago now so would be nice to have a refresher!

I saw this advertised in either Equi ads or ridgeway rider last month and have also signed up....email says due to start early next year....cant wait!

yes, completely free :D I have just started the Greek and Roman Mythology, no money asked for. I think its fab, really good course, great PR for their courses for them and good for us too :D

Signed up a week ago and thought today I'd see what extra reading could be done - have you checked out the recommended books? The prices :eek: Won't be getting any of those then :( I wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to good books at cheaper prices which may be appropriate for this course?

I found this very useful when I studied my HND!

I've just signed up, I didn't know courses like this were available, what a good idea!

Signed up :) - it's great, just what I have been looking for - and free!

 Just seen the book prices too - £41, £42, £62 and £230!!! Amazon, you have to be joking...
I'm with Angelbones, anyone any reccomendations?

Its just over 3k a year, think it works out as 10k over all.

I think as long as you have a decent degree and a decent amount of experience with horses they'll take you on anyway.
The first module is all about getting you up to scratch with biological stats and getting back into the swing of essay writing anyway.

I'm taking a break from it this year and hoping to go back to it next (stupid unemployment!)
TBH though I'm still a little unsure of where it'd lead too, I was the only "hobby" rider doing it, the rest all seemed to own studs and compete at a decent standard so I could see it being useful for them but I'm just a happy hacker really, and just thought it looked interesting!

Do you think they'd take you on say if you didn't have a degree, but had studied equine anatomy and physiology at College level but could have a recomendation from a lecturer saying you had a high understanding of it?

Its an area I would say I'm pretty good in, but I don't have a degree :(

and is there funding for it?

I'd say give them a call. The anatomy and physiology isn't until year two, but there's no harm in calling. The First module was all in getting your biological stats up and revising how to research essays.

No funding I'm afraid :(

I've just finished my first year and we did the Nutrition module. If someone posts a list of the books and I have a copy of them, people are welcome to borrow my books I can arrange for them to be posted, only being a bit of a geek I'd like them back at the end :o

It let me sign up for the Coursera bit but then went wrong before I could sign up for the equine course. Anyone else having problems? Hopefully just a blip and I can log in tomorrow.

this is free isnt it, also it says you dont need any background studies. as i dont have a degree, now i am worried, reading people saying they need degrees, have i signed up to wrong thing, the course is free, anyone can do it? cant they. i have always been interested in it.

Thanks a lot for posting! Sounds really useful and interesting. Have signed up.
For those who are concerned it definitely says it is free and requires no prior knowledge or additional materials. (A reading list is given for those who want to go into it further, but it does say that the course is self-contained).
I think some people on here may be discussing other courses as well, but the one flagged up by the OP is free as stated.
