I am posting here in desperation to save the life of an amazing top compeition horse. The mare is 16.3hh 16 years old fit sound and clipped. She is a pink paper warmblood and chestnut. Her original owner had the mare competed by William Funnel but the mare was not able to jump the international tracks so she was sent eventing then dressage finally she came home for the grooms to ride out. The original owner then died sudenly and I rehomed the mare to a lovely lady in Honiton, Devon. For the last year the mare has done riding club type activities, hacked and hunted a couple of times. So why am I giving her away.

She is a professionals horse needs to be worked most days and kept in a formal routine. If you are a capable rider she can jump the top of the wings for fun and she has amazing paces but she is a chestnut competition mare. You wouldn't lead you grandchild off her or ask your none horsey husband to get her in from the field. She runs in to the trailer then throws herself out looking for the next exciting show to go to. The current rider has done an amazing job but she wants a horse that is easy to do, does not mind staying in the field on its own after dark and will calmly go on fun rides. The mare is not this type of horse.

I am rehoming for a friend but have full authority to home the mare she can either go for a nominal fee (£1.00) or loan but at least for this winter. I have 6 horses of my own her actual owner is broke and about to be jobless and homeless so if I can't find a home in the next 2 weeks I will have to have this fit healthy mare put to sleep.

Would she have to stay in Devon? I know of someone looking but not sure if 16.3hh is too big... (In Wiltshire though?)

No she does not need to stay in Devon but she will need to be properly tried out by prospective owners. The mare is to special to be messed around which is why if we can't find the right home she will be PTS. The mare has bred a foal but it went in to massive organ failure at 5 weeks old and was PTS. The mare was very poor during her pregnancy right up to about a month before foaling. The sickly foal may have been due to the mares poor nutritional state or it could be genetic or it was just bad luck. She had the foal 2010

The mare needs a professional rider and home with the routine a professional yard would have. She likes to go out but also likes to come in. She won't happily stand at a field gate while all the other liveries come in waiting for her owner to bring her in last. Ideally she needs to be on a yard where everything is done together for example all horses feed together at the same time, turn out and brought in then fed again at tea time. She stresses on her current DIY yard where everyone feeds and does their own thing indervidually. This may sound minor but 16.3hh of stroppy chestnut mare is not nice. At the current yard the happy hackers do their lovely quiet all rounders and the mare races around her box not knowing why she has not been fed too. So the other liveries then see this and won't offer to get her in from the field so she has to stay out alone until her current owner comes back from work. And so the stress circle continues.

She is an amazing competiton horse but please don't think she is going to jump you to the top while living on a standard DIY yard and will fit around your work or school time table. There are amazing top level competition horses out there but often the best horses also have a quirk which is why they are so good. I can not risk her being rehomed to have to do it all again next year when the new owner finds she is hard work.

I don't want to put anyone off but I also want to make sure every offer I get is truely aware of what they are asking for. Please also consider she is a low mileage 16 year old and I also need to know what will happen to her when she is to old to compete or breed from.
 
ok I have created a public album and put 6 photos of Maggie the mare I need to re-home. As you will see from the photos she does always jump big and you need to be an excellent and brave rider to ride the mare
