Hi all, I've also put a note on the BD forum so apologies if you've already read about this!

I'm looking at releasing free gait analysis and rider performance tools for everyone and anyone. I've been trying to get around to this for too long, but something else (that I'd actually get paid for) always comes first, so I've said that if at least 200 people express an interest I'll get it done. It's easy to do and understand, no maths or anatomy degrees required and has a scientifically published accuracy higher than available commercial systems and services, but obviously releasing code publicly takes a lot of effort for no income, so I need to be convinced that people are sufficiently interested first!
.
I'm the one who wrote the article on specialists in H&H, and made the point that biomechanists need some serious training to avoid serious mistakes, but just running a program that tells you if joint use or symmetry has changed, that's the sort of thing I think people should be able to do routinely themselves.

There's details on the front page here: http://equinemechanics.com do send me an email (sian@equinemechanics.com) if you'd be interested in trying something like this.

Hi, have emailed you, am definitely interested. Thank you. Sounds like a really great tool.
I've mentioned in my email, I work behind the scenes for ERA (Event Riders Association) and can put the shout out to our members on Twitter and Facebook about this if you would like me to.
Thanks.

This Is more of a general question (I hope you don't mind) I emailed you recently and was going to get an assessment done on me and 2 of my horses but my husband dug his heels in. His reasoning is he can clearly see I'm crooked and I know I am. He wanted to know how it would help me for someone else to tell me im totally wonky. I didn't know so couldn't get him to agree to having the assessment done.
Any info to twist his arm appreciated

Hi Countrychic, the difference is knowing exactly how you're crooked and what you need to change as opposed to just crooked or not. It's actually quite hard to tell just by looking at someone where a rotation is originating or which muscle is too tight and which is compensating. That's where a computational model comes in. Also I have a strict pay-whatever-you-can-afford policy for any sob stories if you think you'd qualify, as I'm not interesting in profiting from misfortune - hence the free software!

The free tools won't give you muscle info or tell you what to change, but they'll allow you tell if you're improving or deteriorating, which I think is something people should know.

PS I've sent so many emails today I'm a little concerned that they may all end up in Spam folders, so if you emailed me and didn't get a reply please look in your spam folder and/or let me know. Thanks!

I'd be interested, but I'd also really be interested in a clinic - you know, a hands on day, with ponies present etc.

Where abouts are you?
