Free Ponies.... are back

Authorities are involved, and have visited. The owner of the horses is not acting illegally in disposing of them free to good homes, so all we can do is hope that the people who come forward are indeed 'good' homes.

The Facebook page now says they don't have strangles. Yet a few days ago it said they did. I'm confused.

Does anyone have a full account.

Perhaps this advertiser needs to know about the strangles.

Worse case scenario is it can be carried to 100 different yards.

Apparently accordingly to Lucy1992 the owner told her "she has no strangles". She was going to go down there again to see what was occurring.

There are currently no horses showing clinical symptoms of strangles. The pony which did have it has been moved and is scabbing over nicely.

Of course, horses can be carriers and show no clinically observable signs. Only a blood test would show that. However, it is not a notifiable disease, so even if not disclosed to potential buyers, the owner would not be acting illegally.

The Facebook page said one horse was sick, some had recovered and the others were OK.

I believe they had seperated the sick one and were blood testing horses before they went.

Personally I wouldn't have one in with my horses, whatever the vet said.

I doubt that all of the people this place seems to attract would have either the knowledge or the sense to follow strick hygiene procedures required to contain strangles.

Lucy never mentioned disinfectant on the yard for example.

If we can carry it on clothes, cars etc I'm sure even horses which aren't infected can carry it on them. Are they going to disinfect the horses before they leave. I hope not anyway.

A straight statement of fact. That it is believed the yard has at least one case of Strangles and you think potential rescuers should at least be warned so they can make informed decisions.

^^ this, if you would be kind enough mountainview22 I don't have a full account.

Edit your last post (potential lack of knowledge) and I'll just post a link to this page.

I personally can not guarantee a horse there has been diagnosed, hence I'm a little wary about stating such statements and potentially opening a can of worms for myself.

Please, just keep it clean, people are trying to help.

I'll send them the link now.

I don't think there's an awful lot anyone can do now other than hope that decent responsible people turn up to take the horses and that there are no more cases or carriers of strangles lurking around the corner. It is a real shame it isn't a notifiable disease.

I think it will be a relieving day when this woman ceases to have this amount of horses in her care. Fingers crossed we don't get a re-establishment of the place in the future.

Whatever you are happy with :D

I did however say "It is believed" which is a fact, that is what we believe

I do hope the poor things can be re-homed to genuine people who will care for them properly.

How long will it be before the risk of strangles has passed? Assuming no other horses except the original one show symptoms that is?

Fiona, on a yard ten miles away From me the yo "locked down" for two months.

I personally wait two months in the clear before moving anything.

No problem miss bean, how's your dad? :p

P.s. I'm sooo sorry if you are offended by that comment. I really should stop trying to make jokes :/

I'm sorry, was arguing at the time and it popped into my mind and made me smile, I shouldn't have said and will delete when I go on laptop.

Rowan Atkinson (sp?) acted out a series as the character Mr bean.

Rockysmum, you've confused me :o

Anyhow, I feel we are straying off topic. I wonder if they will look or if they already know?

Sooo this person has taken it upon herself to advertise someone elses horses on preloved?
I hope the owner has been informed, wether or not she is a cra p owner! I am not sure how legal this is!

Surely not much different to the post created on here a few days ago about 100 free horses looking for homes....
Sorry, I can't remember the OP's name on that post, but I know the number 22 was involved.
( I'm really old)!!!

To me it sounds as if pts would be a kindness rather than passing these animals on to god knows who. :(

1992 :D makes me feel old too!!! Not much different but subtle difference probably from a forum where your not allowed to advertise to a advertising website.

I agree with you touchstone!

Out of the frying pan and into the fire!!
I wonder if this means she didnt take the horse on because of its age and condition!
Any way still not sure someone should take it upon themselves to do this! Advertise them i mean!

Because she wants to help all the 'poor little rescue ponies'. Who, by the way, are now not free but being sold... It appears also to have just been pointed out to the 'owner' that all her horses should really have passports...

And now one of her little supporters is suggesting she advertise on gumtree for use of her land to raise money for the horses!!
