Where are all these small adult/child that want a pony to ride/loan? I few months ago I made decision to put my 13.2hh NF up for loan, due to him being totally wasted. At the moment he is doing absolutely nothing as I am getting my others ready for hunting season and bringing on my youngster. Not that he cares; in fact I think he thinks he is retired at the grand age of 10! I have advertised him and had nothing recently but a few kids call up. When I asked to speak their parents they hung up! A couple of people did view him in June, on the phone they gave the whole story of how good a rider they are. When it came to it one could even get him to trot. And the other, well I asked her to get off after 5 mins after socking my pony in the mouth to get him on an outline. Ok so he is not a push button job, but if you are confident and ask him correctly he does his job.

I am asking £20 per week, if this too much in the current climate? Or maybe is it his height putting small adults off? I am 5’6 and just over 9 stone and takes me no problem. If I found someone that was suitable they don’t even have to pay a penny. I just thought putting a price would put off people thinking they can a get free ride and time wasters. The loanee doesn’t have to do mornings as I am up putting my motley crew out anyway, so ideal for someone at school or working. Oh and no mucking out as my dad is trained. He has hunted, x country, dressage and 10 mile rides oh and totally bombproof. I have a lorry so free transport to events. So I don’t get it? When I was horseless I would snap someone’s hand off for this opportunity.

Its so frustrating I feel sorry for people that need to sell their horses at the moment. As a last resort I may have to get up a 4am to ride him or give him the news he is retired…

Advertise with the local PC......bet you SOMEONE will want a pony like him.
And if its a PC child, you know they will be doing structured things on a regular basis.
My lad has gone to a pony club child and he is going fantastically well and more importantly he is having a ball!!!

Arh you are just that little too south of me!

OP - whereabouts are you? I have a friend whose daughter is looking for a pony to love - she's 7 and up to a good standard, cantering, little jumps etc (sometimes on the bigger ones). She's fearless with animals, and would want to do some of the care side with mum in tow. I can't believe she'd be lucky enough to have you nearby (the Wirral) but it's always worth asking! I think £20 per week with no jobs is ace!

Definitely try pc. If I was looking for my daughter, sounds like just the type I'd want. And advertise in local tack & feed shops. If you can, see if you can find someone to take him to a pc rally. Even if they aren't looking for a regular ride & do it as a favour just the once, if he's seen it may well spark interest.

PC is probably your best bet but apart from that if you want him to live at home chances are most people of the standard you want either have their own and cant afford to pay for another or cant afford to pay hence dont have their own.

If your near me, which I doubt from the photo, I know some one looking, just finished masters and looking for a job so cant afford own right now.

Where abouts are you? I am looking for a pony for my daughter to share. I have lots of experience, but currently sending her to a riding school as I don't have a pony.

She is a beginner!

It's madness, people talk about not having any money, but they are spending it all on non essentials like TVs and mobiles, they have lost the will to work at anything, everything has to be handed to them on a plate, I sound like a moaning old person, but really I am on a very limited income, and having a pony is a priority. I can't find anyone to ride him, they are just not interested in making any effort.
The only person who has been in touch says they are doing it to save £20 on riding lessons, not much use to me, someone who can't ride and does not want to learn!

Sorry had to do some work, so late ti your replies. Thanks fir your suggestions and yep advertised all above. I am in Northumberland. It's totally crazy he is in my eyes is a perfect pony yes a little cheeky but I put it down to character. But just the type you can leave for months, then pop his tack on and go out like he has been rode everyday. I just want someone to have some enjoyment out of him as he loves the fuss.

Thanks for PMs, I think I am in a pocket of the country that has very few horsey people, or maybe a too horsey place as everyone has one.

Whats the £20 per week for? Loaning the pony? Just asking as Ive never seen people charge for that before, loaning is normally free as in the loanee simply pays for the keep of the pony but no other 'charge'.

I can sympathise with you, I've asked around for ages now for a rider for my 13.2hh - free riding and have even offered to take them to shows etc. (which Id pay for!) but nobody!!

£20 just towards the cost of his shoes and feed ect that is if he is kept on my yard. It would be like having a horse on fully livery for £20 a week.. To be honest it’s not about the money at all, I just want to find the right person. I put a price to try and stop people or kids calling up thinking they pay however much at a riding school then think they can use him as a free ride, its to sort of to put a value on him, if that makes sense, I want someone that will make a fuss of him and give him loads of attention and to think its not all about the riding.

I think your better off advertising for a rider rather than advertising it as a loan. The trouble is when people loan they prefer to move them to the yard of there choice & be left to do their own thing without the worry of the owner breathing down their necks.
I put an ad on Facebook a couple of weeks ago looking for someone to come & ride out with me, as ive got a couple of spare ponies, ive had loads of enquirys, & ive now got 3 riders that im going to juggle days between, so the ponies should get out every day. I aimed my ad at mums whose kids are now back in school & have free time, i havnt asked for any contribution from anyone as they are my horses & they are doing me the favour by exercising them.

So jealous! If I was near you I'd be snapping him up in a second xD. Good luck though :3. There will be someone out there, you just have to find them, or they have to find you ;).

I'm surprised you can't find anyone for him, he sounds like such a fun little chap!
Are there any universities near you as most usually have a riding club so you may find a competent student who would love the chance to ride whilst at uni.
I start at Durham university this year and would love that kind of opportunity so I'm sure there must be others out there too!
Hope you find someone :)
