Ok, so lets talk free schooling. I honestly do not know the correct way to do it. I let fly loose and with my body language (hardly moving at all) I can turn him, send him away and bring him in. I only ever do it if Iwant to loose jump him. I have never been shown how to do it and wondered what is the correct way?

My horse learnt to jump through loose schooling although she was very talented at it. She worked up (over several months) plus with lots of schooling to jumping 4'6'' before I even jumped 2 ft on her. So she was confident. I wasn't overly confident jumping you see!!

I have never been shown how to do it "properly" i used to carry a lunge whip bu she did it on her own! Somehow she just knew what I wanted!

Oh come now............. I have seen loads of replies of the type.."some people think free schooling is chasing around with a lunge whip", So what is the correct way? Don't be shy, I want to know!

No idea I was never taught to free school. I just stand in the middle of the school (I do hold the lunge whip) and use the same vocals as I would if I lunge. It seems to work for our three.
I would be interested to know the right way as well.

There is a good book called From My Hand To Yours by Monty Roberts which really helps with the aids for free schooling etc. Works a treat, you can speed your horses up, slow them down, change direction etc all without needing voice commands, a lunge line or a whip. When you get it right that is... But the horse certainly lets you know when you have got it wrong.
