I've seen a Stubbs rack on wheels which looks amazing but very pricey (£500ish).

Also seen Pinterest pics of home made ones including what looked a bit like a coat stand with horseshoes welded around the top to make the hooks. Looks brilliant but my DIY skills aren't up to that and I've no idea how they made it stable enough to hang dirty wet rugs off it.

Any suggestions for cheaper (possibly non-equestrian) alternatives?

Similar to @Peglo I use jump stands and poles. I've also got an old free standing roadworks stand. It's plastic and had been left to rot at the side of the road. My friend and I dug it out and use it!

Thank you for the ideas! Drainpipe on a rope seems very popular. Might even have some downpipe left over. I have an idea now involving tie rings how to rig one up so I can haul it up out of the way. Brilliant, thanks ?
