Bit of a rough time lately. Today especially. So I think, "I know, I'll go and see my horse to de-stress." Yeah right.

So Bailey comes in from field as I get there.

Well.

One side looked normal (well for him anyway). The other? A 6 inch rip in his brand new rug, but this being a Bailey special was not just a "surface wound" to said rug. Oh no. The little sod had managed to rip it all the way through to the inside. I have absolutely no idea how.

In the last 2 weeks he has broken and I have repaired both leg straps only for them to break again so I took them off. He decided today that the filet string was the next thing for a battering...cue me toodling round looking for stuff to repair it.

We've also had in the last 2 weeks each hind leg (one per week) suffering a scrape and blowing up to the size of an elephant (yes an elephant, not even an elephant's leg). Today, the latest one had just returned to normal, but guess what? Yep, new scrape on the other hind.

He was also insistent that I wanted to look very closely at his vile sarcoid on his ear and seems to think that I have one which needs cream - he spent a lot of time trying to rub it on ME as I was running round the stable trying to get away from HIM.

Whilst I was trying to repair filet string to abovementioned rug, he also looked round at me very sweetly before guffing straight into the face of yours truly.

So, knowing the above, does anyone else want him? I'll pay you to take him. That or I'm giving him to "I'm a Celebrity" as a bushtucker trial...see if they can stand taking one in the face from the @rse of himself.

Horses. Who'd have them?
 
mmm Daughters youngster did a job on his rug this week through to the hair type. Daughter spends an afternoon mending said rug and pops it back on the beast. 2 days later the sod has reopened the tear :eek: :rolleyes: Daughter has mentioned pritt sticks :p :rolleyes: :D

I'm changing his name to Pritt Stick. Or PVA. Do you think if I mix him with 2/3 water he'll dilute somewhat??

My two seem to have a rug ripping fetish. I also went up to discover my electric fencing, wooden post's n all had been pulled out at the top of the field. This seemed to be in an attempt to 'release' the mare from her paddock prison and join the lads in their field. :rolleyes:

If it makes you feel any better, my (8!) have all suddenly decided to start tearing shreads off each others Rambo rugs and destroying my back fence and escaping into the neighbours field every day.
They are all currently wearing shreaded rugs until I can start working out what to repair first and swap around.
 
Iv tried to give mine away as well still no takers mines nineteen and really should know better jumping fences and acting like a two year old i have been told i have no hope of him growing up oh well of to drag him out of the summer grazing again
 
I feel your pain, OP.

Hey.. an idea.

He needs a like-minded friend. You can have one of mine to go with him.

Now.. would you like the fence-destroyer, the rug-ripper or the houdini (escapes but you never find out how) OR.. as a once off special offer you can have two and get a third (the mega-guffer) FREE!! (Disclaimer: never leave a naked flame near the rear end of this horse. Explosion might occur)

While these beasts may try our sanity we really wouldn't be without them would we?

Or would we? I'm not appreciating my neds sense of humour at the moment. When its really cold and the wind is icy enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey she takes her sweet time in walking up the field for her dinner :eek:

I suspect he doesn't like that rug and he's frustrated that he can't get the message through to you. Is it pink?

On the other hand I would rather he damaged the rug than damaged himself. The vet's call out charge would probably cover the cost of a new rug !

You love him really and he knows it.

Hmm you could be right...it is no coincidence that last years cow print rug was in immaculate condition (he outgrew it) and this one is a boring purple. He does however, love pink! He isn't called The Gay One for nothing ;)

Well this is the thing; of the two, I would rather he injured rugs and not himself, however, he has a canny knack for doing both which leaves me worse off on both scores!

Fred is due to start him at the beginning of March but we have a small issue in his sarcoid being on his ear!

It is just beginning to get painful as the cream does its stuff - to be fair to him it is the first time he has started making a fuss about it. Vet has said (no pun intended) to play it by ear and if it is messy as it comes off to delay any work until it begins to heal. Don't want him to associate a bridle going on with any pain and have him becoming head or ear shy.

Sure he is doing to get out of working... :D

How's your leg? Is Ted behaving for you? :D

Im back on crutches for a week after a small op on tuesday. Had a go at mucking out this morning on crutches - very challenging! Should be off them by mid next week. Ted is being very good considering everything. He is hopefully on his last week of box rest - think he is a bit frustrated having been in nearly 6 weeks! :eek:

Oh gosh; all mending ok though? When are you starting Ted?

Oh bless him; box rest for youngsters is not fun. Bailes had 3 months of it when he was 18 months and it was awful.

Better to wait and be sensible with his ear etc. Don't want to have an issue for the rest of his ridden life. Better to wait now and reap the benefits later!!
 
Leg is not mending particularly well :( but trying to keep going and not rely on everyone!

Will start Ted end of this year but think ill end up sending him away to be backed as I don't think my leg will be 100% then.

Fingers crossed for Bailey's sarcoid going quickly!

Need to see some up to date piccies! Not seen him for a year!
 
I will try and get some of him in next couple of weeks. He is huge, just gets bigger every time I see him.

Need some up to date ones of Ted as well! Last time I saw him he was very fluffy and a lot smaller than he looks in your sig!

Have you decided where you are going to send Ted yet?

Yay! Well hopefully Ted will be going out in the field on Tuesday so will take lots of pictures then! I bet they will look really similar! Ted is standing about 15.1hh now and looks really well!

Still not sure where to send him. My friend is taking her horse for schooling somewhere in/near Quainton and if that goes well and they do a good job ill see if they will back Ted.
