I am currently considering leaving my full time grooming job to become a freelancer, hopefully with the aim of getting a bit more money but also freedom and more flexibility. I've never worked freelance before so am not really sure what people would want me to do (I'm sure it varies), so if anyone is or employs a freelance groom would you mind telling me what jobs they/you do. And for those who are freelancers, do you enjoy it, is it better than being employed by someone full time and can you make a reasonable living out of it?

Thankyou muchly! Any advice/experiences/info would be greatly appreciated.

I have never employed a groom before but would defo consider it if I could find one near me!!

I have trouble plaiting (arthritus(sp!) in fingers) etc and for days I need to work long hours it would be lovely for someone to pop down and make sure my nags are OK etc...mucking out would be nice too. I would happily pay £10 to £15.00 per hour depending on the service if that helps :-)

I do a bit of freelance to pay for my ponies

Tbh its hard work, i found it easier on a set day/wage.

Ive ended up now looking after 6 horses + my own 2 everyday and its annoying with the winter cos i just wanna get on with my own and go home.

But it is good if you have other comitments like kids ect.

I get different pay depending on what i do with the horse rather than the time and peterol money on top.

But it can be reeeeally difficult to find work during the summer! Winter .. you get too much

Hope this helps
