Hi Im just looking at going self employed and was just wondering if you needed to set it up as an actual business or you can just say that your self employed ie. the invoice just has your name at the top not an actual business name? Also im looking to do a bit of buying and selling and just wondered where i stood with tax and if i would need to set that up as a business. Someone said i can just class it as recreational but if im selling horses on a regular basis whats the limit before you have to declare it as a business and start paying tax? Thanks ! :)

Also, I *believe* that if you sell more than 3 horses a year it is classed as trade? Although happy to stand corrected.

:)

Yeah ive just become a member , waiting for my payment to clear so i can ring and ask them but i need to sort out an invoice for someone in the next few days :S . Ah okay i will probs go over that so will have to go trade eventually .

I do a lot of freelance work for only a handful of clients and I just invoice them under my name rather than business, have been doing this for a year now. You would need to set up a direct debit for national insurance. You don't want to register as a business unless you really have to!
