I am a freelance instructor in Oxfordshire - have taught successfully for years alongside my full time job. I want to increase my business so i can pretty much teach full time and give up other job. I also offer other services such as groom/clipping etc. I would love any ideas on how to successfully expand the business so it can begin to provide a more substantial income???!!!!

I'm not a freelance instructor but I do use them. Things I looks for...

- personal recommendations (do your current clients know you have more time available?)
- good relationships with the yards they work on (eg YM happy for them to advertise in tea room etc)
- qualifications (if you have some there will normally be websites where you can be listed)
- presumably, espec. if teaching kids, you'd want a CRB check and good first-aid qualification to reassure parents

Other ways to get noticed
- work in a RS or similar, I know a few who have a 'base' job at a RS/working livery/competition place where they also obviously meet potential new free-lancing clients
- their own competition results
- willingness to ride out on their own horses to assist with e.g. XC schooling/hacking issues/hunt preparation (not something I've used but know some who have)
