I've just started giving dressage lessons to various friends and fellow liveries at the yard where I keep MJ.

The lessons are on site and are on their own horses (which so far, I haven't hopped on).

Just wondering what insurance I need to take out. I am a BHS gold member, but that doesn't cover this situation.

Any advice please.

Hi, are you a BHS qualified instructor? If so, you can pay to join the Register of BHS Instructors and you are then insured through them. You do have to hold a first aid certificate and do BHS training every two years (I think) and do a child protection course. If you aren't BHS qualified, I should ring several insurance companies (NFU, SEIB etc), describe to them the teaching you are doing and what it involves and see what they come back with

Oo sorry, Kirstyl, I should have said - I have no BHS instruction qualifications.
I'll give some companies a buzz in the morning, but I just wondered what people thought

Unfortunately insurance is expensive but really don't take the risk of teaching without it. You will need to tell the insurance company where you are teaching, who you are teaching and if you are going to be getting on board / schooling any of the horses
