I am in need of an expert. I'm inspired by the adults on little ponies thread to do something with my super handsome 12ish year old, 13.2 companion pony. I bought him (untried - mainly wanted a companion) as "backed but extremely green". Well he's fine to sit on but try to control movement, pace or direction from on board and it goes rapidly, ridiculously wrong. He's a very sceptical, suspicious, do-one first ask questions later type of chap but is an absolute sweetheart and would be a lovely, forward riding pony if he got his head round it.
Starting horses from scratch is totally outside my experience but I have had a few young horses just backed and ridden away. I'd like someone to intensively get this guy going but I'd want them to come to me rather than sending the pony away. Partly because I'd prefer to keep costs down - the pony's value will still be peanuts ridden or unridden afterall, but mainly because if I sent him away I'd have no companion pony.
Does anyone know of anybody willing, able and small enough to do this, and who won't piss me off?
