Can I ask who you insure with please? Is there much difference in cost between when you hold a BHS certificate or not? I'm debating about continuing with these exams, but wondering whether that is a bad move as people prefer you to have sat an exam? I have done quite a bit of teaching but via word of mouth, and want to get back into it having had my little girl, but am thinking new clients may prefer someone with an AI after their name, rather than competed up to a level, produced youngsters etc?

Shearwater are very good for insurance as they offer different packages depending how many hours per week you teach. They do ask what qualifications you hold but not sure how much difference this makes to the cost.

People want different things - some will not consider you without qualifications, others are happy with experience only. I guess it's better to have a range of things to offer.

I do generally find that word of mouth is the best form of advertising - do a good job and they'll recommend you to their friends and then formal training tends to be less important.

Good luck!

I have previously been direct with SEIB and with the BHS register (which include insurance in the price). The register is much cheaper, about half the price. But you do need a minimum level of BHS quals ( I think PTT and stage 3) and have to keep up to date with child protection and first aid as well as attending recognised CPD courses.

I'm insured with KBIS, i only have Stage One with the BHS, but i have my UKCC Level 2, and child protection and first aid certs. I do get most of my clients through word of mouth, and sometimes i get clients who have seem me ride at shows.

I also suggest looking into doing the UK Coaching Certificate, either in general riding or specialising in your fav sport!

I am doing ukcc level 2 accredited coaching exams this summer :) i have competed up to 1.20 regional and national both junior and senior and produced quite a few horses now. Hoping to teach and offer schooling livery ect when I graduate
