Hello

New Car time!

Any one towed with either of these?

Need to tow a warm blood and a Hb 506 trailer.

In an ideal world I would be able to tow a warm blood and a pony but don't think either can ...

Any good/bad points would be welcomed!

Cheers

Hi, I've got a Freelander 2 and an Ifr Williams double trailer( not sure what the number is sorry!) it's the older type so I think a bit heavier. I've towed a 16hh cobby chap around quite happily and no probs. havnt towed with a Sorrento so hopefully someone else will be able to help you with that. Although, thinking about it, there is someone on yard who does have a Sorrento and towes a big event horse ( about 17h med.weight) all over the place and I havnt heard her complain, although not actually had a specific conversation with her about it.As she's very particular, I would think this is a good sign that it works well!! :-)

If you get one of the older ones, and its a diesel auto, it can tow up to 3.5t. Others can tow up to about 3 I think. New ones towing capacity now as good iirc.

My friend has one -its lovely. And cheaper to repair than my Disco

I tow a 17.2 warmblood and sometimes a pony with my sorrento.
never had any problems with it plus ive got A/T's tyres on it and it goes everywhere

becareful if you are thinking of a brand new sorento, they cannot tow the same as the older ones, i have a 2.5 and think that can tow 2800kg, I have a 510 and a 600kg horse with lots of gear in the trailer and have no issues at all

Not sure on the sorento (new) I think the tow capacity is 2500, I looked at the new Hyundai Santa Fe it's tow capacity is now 2500. But still more than the freelander and depending on your trailer weight u should be fine with 2? If the stuff u carry is in the tow car u only need to account for the weight of the trailer and horses. Older Kia's I think some are 3000, but will use more fuel. I went for a pathfinder in the end, but my friend bought the Santa Fe it's gorgeous and parks itself! (Though I wouldn't want to get it dirty and my pathfinder is currently covered in hay, inside)

I tow an Ifor double trailer with an 07 Sorento and it is amazing, towed 4 people,2 ponies plus all the tack, water, picnic gubbins ect out of muddy fields last summer with no effort at all.I really love it.

I have an 07 sorento, tows fab. However it is currently sat in a workshop potentially needing a new engine! It's only done 48,000. Admitidly not a common problem but when you start searching it seems to be an occasional issue with 05 to 07 models

sorry just re read my post and I haven't been clear , mine is an older one. The towing weight of the sorento varies wildly, so just check out carefully, but the newer ones is definately less than the older ones, think the new ones are 2 litres as opposed to some of the older ones being 2.5.

Bought a KIA sorrento recently after loads of advice in here, and I LOVE it. Pleasure to tow with, doesn't use a huge amount of diesel compared to the other 4x4 we had.

And it's great to use as an every day car too.

Cheap to tax and was cheaper to insure then mitsubishi

Honestly don't feel the trailer behind it. We were advised to go for the 2.5l diesel auto not the petrel.

Prices also really decent, you can pick up a good spec one for £5k or so.

Btw I think all the sorrentos have a towing capacity of 2800 - but the newer KIA are called sportage and these have a lower tower ability.

Another vote for the Sorento. We have a 2011 model and love it. Happily tows two horses in a 505 anywhere we've needed to go offroad or on, including some wet shows last year. The Sportage is actually a smaller Kia model and I don't know anything about their towing ability but lot less than the Sorento obviously.

The Sportage is different to the Sorento and doesn't have the same pulling power. The dealer I bought my Sorento from said that the Sportage isn't really up to towing very much at all.

I have a 2008 landrover freelander 2 and a Ifor Williams 510 (heavy one that weighs 1000kg unladen). I have a 16.2hh eventer TB (not a spindly TB type) who weighs about 550kg.

My towing capacity is 2000kgs.

I mostly just tow my horse but I have towed two with my friends lighter trailer. I live in Norfolk so no really steep hills.

I love my car. It drives great when towing and not towing. I can do 50mph comfortably on dual carriageways. Never felt like its struggled with anything I've asked of it.
Plus- I think it's a bit nicer than he Kia's (I did look at them too but the look of the care plus interior was much superior)

Whichever one you choose I think they would do the job.

For pulling power Sorento every time!

I have owned mine since 2005 and other than a new prop shaft, have had no major issues in the 7 yrs I have owned it. I have the automatic diesel XS model.

It tows amazingly well, is comfortable to drive, economical to run (for a 4x4), 100% reliable, and living in rural Shropshire, has got us out and about safely despite the snow and ice thrown at us in the recent winters.

I had a freelander years ago for a bit and hated it - just not up to the job.
