It depends what you want a 4x4 for. If it doesn't have to tow, but is maybe going to go over really heavy terrain, then something like a Sportrak could be good. But if, like me, you just need to get around in bad weather, tackle muddy fields at shows and negotiate farm tracks then I think it's worth looking at the Kia range. I am just selling my Sportage (because I don't need 4x4 any more) and it has been brilliant. It's a high spec for the money and age (P reg and electric windows, aircon etc), and because it's selectable 4WD it is more economical to run than a car that is in 4WD all the time. You run in 2WD most of the time, but select 4WD when the going gets tough. I've also towed an empty trailer with it, but it wouldn't handle loaded.
