Freestyle dressage - arena size?

What size arena do you use if you are devising a test for the first time please? I might do some affliated (eventually) but am trying this for the first time. My own arena is 20 X 40m but if all affliated tests have to be in a 60 X 20m arena should my floorplan use this size please?

Hi, You can do BRC events they are 20 x 40 and you could work out a test that you could place in a 20 x 60 so that you ride the 20 x 40 pattern in the middle of the 20 x 60 if you see what I mean? Alison

I think so - you suggest I work out a 20 X 40 pattern but then if I ever do a 20 X 60 test I just use less of that arena....I presume the marks might reflect that but probably the best compromise....is that right?

Yes thats what I was suggesting- when you have got the bug you can work out your timings in a 20 x 60 and then practice at home in 20 x 40 when you know your music really well you can do this by adding small circles to take up time... Good Luck- Alison
