Freestyle - the music - a musings

Patrik Kittels kur music is amazing! He uses Depeche Mode, with Scandic. Definately not dull!

But I also think the riders need to take more chance and have more exciting music, but thats my personal preferrance.

I hate that Kur it's all about what you like ,
I like Valegros music and I think Parizals is lovely for him I liked Edward Gals music ( I think he always chooses very expressive music for the horse) but felt that neither Damon Hill or Desperardos had music that enhanced or excited at all .

I love watching a Kur that has music that enhances the sheer majesty, power and expression of the horse and rider. These top riders have an opportunity to produce an amazing piece of theatre, and it's a bit disappointing when it's 'dull'. I get goosebumps thinking of Totilas doing is extended canter and tempi changes to 'what shall we die for' from POTC: At worlds End. There is so much emotive music scores out there! Am I not the only one who listens to music and can imagine a horse extending or piaffing to it? :p

Hope link works, I love this......am currently trying to pull together a PSG freestyle and am flipping doing it to music I love to ride to that makes me smile, Arcade Fire....Greenday...U2....Cold War Kids.....rolling stones....jimmy Hendrix....we haven't finalised it yet but it's all far from boring!

WOW thoroughly enjoyed that! Fantastic use of music

To be honest, the music has improved massively! I was watching a couple of DVDs (Great Dressage Horses 1 and 2) and the music in the first was very dull and without clear beats.

In recent years we've had Anky's kurs perfectly synchronised to Salinero's footfalls, Imke and Sunrise's lovely unique music, Andreas and Matine with their massive crowd pleaser, Edward and Totilas with their amazing dramatic music, JM and Fuego, Goncalo and Rubi using popular tunes, Steffen Peters and Ravel had a kur with Coldplay and other popular music IIRC.

Even at this championship there was recognisable music from Shakira, The Who, Phil Collins, Disney, etc. The music at London I found disappointing, there were something like 3 Phil Collins based freestyles, argh!

The worst kurs for me are the cut and paste style ones with snippets from many different pieces of music, that don't flow or blend well.

Yeah, loads of them are dead dull and as somone who struggles to watch dressage at the best of times it would really help if they were a bit more zingy.

If you accept you meed people to take an interest in your sport for it to flourish surely it is in everyone's interests in the sport to do something really memorable?

Ets. I love that matine test so much. Wish we could have seen more od such a fabulous horse. :(

Take some of the Abba songs - they'd be cracking for expressive trot work!!

Anything but ABBA. When I did RDA dressage every other test used ABBA and even though it was a few years ago I still dread hearing it.

The best one used Steptoe and son for their walk, which suited the horse to a T.

Yup! Really sad I didn't get into dressage early enough to appreciate it.

@LEC: If it wasn't for the cut and paste-ness there were some really good bits, have seen the second one before :D

Hahaha I think Abba is a RDA favourite. BUT it's good music...
