Does anyone know the sugar content of Readigrass / Just Grass please?

The websites state that they do not contain molasses and I'm wondering whether it would be a high fibre (32%) winter option for a mildly laminitic?

The bag doesn't carry the laminitic approved label but then I wouldn't necessarily feed all the products that do.

I'd be interested to hear any thoughts :)
 
I feed Just Grass but if you want really low sugar/protein content then Simple Systems do a product called Ruff Stuff which is more like chopped hay in terms of protein and sugar. Their Just Grass is more like spring grass in feed value. Dobson & Horrell's Just Grass is cheaper than SS's version but in both products there is nothing other than dried grass.

If you don't want much energy value in the feed, ie low protein and natural sugar, then Ruff Stuff is the better product. I used to feed this in the summer to Cairo if he put on weight and then in winter go back to Just Grass.
 
I really like the sound of SS but the only problem with them is that I'm not near a supplier and don't have the space to store even the minimum delivery load!
 
The sugar content will depend on the type of grass it is made from (ie rye, timothy etc) and when the grass was cut. Only way to be sure is to contact the manufacturers and ask them what the sugar and starch content is. To be suitable to be fed to laminitics the combined sugar/starch level should be no more than 10%, but I have a feeling that the products you mention may be too high.

If you can explain a bit more about your pony, his usual diet, workload, whether good doer/poor doer, etc., we might be able to suggest other products which are suitable.
 
Hmm, I heard from a veterinary source that after Readigrass first came on the market, it was linked to a number of laminitis cases. Apparently it is cut from best dairy grass.
