Freeze marking.......im scared!

Well ive booked Jed in to be freeze marked on the 19th July, what with all the horses(especially coloureds) being stolen at the moment, but im worried Jed will go completly bonkers!

Does freeze marking hurt them?

Anyone else had experiance of horses objecting to it?
 
I had mine done about 3 weeks ago and like you i was really scared. i bought him his favourite likit, he moved around a bit but once he was against the stable wall he was fine, he leant on it to make himself more comfortable. He did kick out a bit with his hind leg, but the lady was very patient and very good with him. It hardly takes any time to get the mark done.

Get your horses favourite treat to distract them. My other horse is being done on the 5 or 6 july
 
we had a yard session done in march and they were all good except for a young mare. Think her protest was more about being told what to do than it actually hurting. My boy is usually a bit of a drama queen when it comes to strangers coming near him with things in their hand but i just stood and gave him some treats and he didn't bat an eyelid.

Was a bit sore for a couple of days afterwards though
 
I had mine done last year. I had a haynet ready for her and she only registered displeasure when I had the loss of use L and circle put on because that is larger. She didn't mind the other letters at all.

Like you I was dreading it, but actually it was no worse than vet coming to do jabs, etc.
 
Had my black TB mare done a few years ago - she wasn't bothered by it at all...and I had no problems afterwards - the hair grew in white, and the mark is neat, but obvious.

My mare shuffled her feet, but didn't lift her head out of her feed bowl the 1st time or the 2nd time when they had to remark one letter which hadn't taken the 1st time.
 
I had my two TB's freezemarked 6 years ago and they hated it. Even though they were tied up they wouldn't keep still but the woman managed to keep the freezebrand on. Didn't get my other two neds done!
 
One of my boys can be the most difficult to treat as he has had trust issues due to a previous home, and with the help of some treats and gentle voices he was as good as gold didnt move at all, from what i understand it does not hurt, but goes numb very fast
 
I've had six done, including a wussy show pony, not one was bothered. It doesn't actually hurt as the area is very quickly numbed completely.
