As per title. Where are your horses freeze marked?

Also, if I had them marked on their shoulders or neck would that count against me if I showed them?

Cheers!

I have had four done on the shoulder and two on the wither, I just prefer the shoulder. It should not affect your horse for showing but, if you show under saddle, have it done on the wither so it can't be ssen.
Wherever it's done, it's very well worth doing

Mine are all marked on the shoulder - I did notice that my girl appeared to be the only freezemarked horse at the Royal Show, but she was still placed.

I prefer it here as it is visible even if the horse is being ridden (you hear stories of horse thieves seeing nice horses being ridden out and following them back to the yard to steal them) and there is absolutely no likelihood of any rubbing or problems with pressure, the recovery is only 2 days before they can be ridden too

I had George freezemarked on his saddle area on Saturday, prefer it there after a lot of thought. I was back riding him yesterday with a thick lambswool numnah under his saddle and no problems. Re cost, I think Farmkey charge £53 with a £5 discount for BHS members and further discounts if you get 2 or more horses done at the same time.

I had Beano done on his shoulder. If you are going to have a security marking it might as well be visible, and there is no absolute guarantee that it doesn't cause discomfort under the saddle.

both farm key and freezemark charge about the same which is at the most £55.... as georgeous george and I know it is cheeper if you can get more than one.

I have both of mine done on their saddle area, just personal preference really. As for it being marked against you..... it should never be, as it is not a conformational fault, and if it is then the judge is not worth their "salt". I have never noticed my "delicate flower" having any discomfort from having it there.

I took the view that it is a very visual method that cannot be removed and that it is far easier to report my orange or brown horse with xyz1 to people who do not understand equine terminology

With the BHS discount and sidneyflatfoot both having horses done at the same time it cost us each £42 well worth it for my peace of mind. George is not sensitive to the mark now only 5 days later, and of course once it's fully formed there is nothing to rub.

I called farmkey last week and they said it was £56 for one horse and £95 for two and there is a £5 discount for BSI & NFU members. I am planning on doing it on CJ's shoulder since she is a roan and might do G on the shoulder as well.

I had my boy marked as a saddlemark but he changed colour (grey) and I had him re-marked on his shoulder as a baldmark. The second one was free but he must be very thick skinned because you can only see it in summer. I clip the patch in winter.

freezemark will also give a discount for Horsewatch members - but you would have to mention it when booking

I think Freezemark are in the Southampton area in the very near future, in anybody there wants to save money by getting in on a bulk marking session, contact freezemark direct for details
