How long until he can be ridden as im 99% sure its going under the saddle ?

Its a week before they can be ridden if it under saddle, they say they cant feel it, my sister had her horse done 2 years ago and says that he just stood there while the woman was pushing so hard against him and it never bothered him.
But my sister was still in a mess about it all...lol

the rep will expect your horse to be clean and dry in the marking site, and will expect you to be there to sign a consent form (if you haven't already sent one to them) and to hold the horse. They will do a marking chart (like a passport chart) and confirm the mark to be put on, or check that your chosen selected mark has not already been issued.
They will clip a rectangle on the area to be marked and clean the area. The letters/numbers will be chilling on a box while they are doing all this. They will then apply the markers one by one to complete the mark. At this stage is is quite handly to have a bowl of food or at least a haynet to distract your horse as quite a lot pf pressure has to be applied. Don't worry if your horse moves around, the operator will just follow them.

After all the markers have been applied one by one you can put a rug straight on your horse and turn out if you wish.

If your horse is grey the mark must be on the shoulder as the irons stay on for longer to completely kill the follicles to create a bald mark.

You should be able to ride after about 5 days if the mark is on the back, and it is healing well..if marked on the shoulder 2-3 days recovery is all that is needed.

Initially the mark will swell, this goes down over 24-48 hours and then there will be some slight scabbing over the letters - don't be tempted to pick at this. After the scabbing heals the marked hair will grow out white.

Your operator will wear a hat and gloves, and in the interests of safety, you should too.

are you using Farmkey or Freezemark? Farmkey usually have 4 digit marks, Freezemark use 3, they are allocated in advance to be sure of being unique. You can also choose your own combination of up to 4 but they would need to check these haven't already been used so is best done in advance (about a £20 extra charge I think)

Its fine, I even had my yearling done and she didnt bat a eyelid. The chap from Farmkey was v.professional.

Dont worry, its a good investment for the future, to keep them safe xx
