Freezemark help please

I have decided to have my horse freezemarked - he is my horse of a life time and I am terrified he gets lost/stolen.

He is a light grey so is having a 4 letter (his name) on his shoulder, will we be marked down for this, showing local and county level and dressage up to prelim (at the moment)

Apparently they advise not to have greys done under the saddle due to the fact the mark has to be stronger to be seen???
 
greys have to have the area bald marked ie the hair is killed off where the freezemark numbers are. so the companies are not willing to do this under the saddle area.

It really is worth having them marked for peace of mind & security.
 
I have a skewbald done on the side just behind the saddle flap & it has never been a problem showing from the local shows up to HOYS & RIHS quanlifies.
 
You shouldn't get marked down, but showing is a funny discipline. I have always had horses freezemarked, and always on the shoulder regardless of colour. If your horse is microchipped you can have a micromark rather than a full freezemark, which is like a little omega.
 
Absolutely always have your horse Freezemarked. I always have mine done on the shoulder too as it is seen when riding, so should the worst happen, it can't be hidden whilst being ridden.
Although you can have the micromark, I feel having a full freezemark offers just that little more as it is a visual noticeable and eaily readable mark, that can be remembered by a passer by.

no my boy has V1NN on his shoulder his name is vinnie i dont think its naf lol its easy to remember
 
Sorry, don't know about showing but just got mine done earlier this week. They weren't overly bothered at all. I got mine marked on the shoulder. I also bought the bright yellow 'FREEZEMARKED' sign and I am sleeping better at night.
We were burgled last month and I always thought 'it won't happen to me'. I couldn't get them freezemarked quick enough. I didn't go for the personalised mark as it is £20 more and with four to mark it wasn't worth an extra £80.
