I'm thinking of having Josie freezemarked, but have very little knowledge about it and was hoping you all could help?

Which is the best company? Can I have my own letters ie Jo5ie etc?

Will it affect her showing? We were doing really well before she became lame, I'm hoping next year we can get back to it. We mainly do inhand, so it's not like I can even cover it with a saddle.

Lastly where is best to put it? and how muh does it cost? Sorry for all the questions. Only one horse is done on current yard, so know very little about it.

Thankies x

I used Farmkey when my mare was branded Loss of Use. I don't think you will be able to use your own name. With my mare they put it just behind where the saddle flap would be as they said if I was ever able to ride her again it would be hidden by a saddle cloth. Also because she is a grey and the brand has to be kept on for a longer time to kill the follicles completely, it was less sensitive there rather than on the shoulder.

Hope this helps.

BTW it has grown over completely and unless you knew it was there you would not notice it at all, not very satisfactory really.

Hmm thats doesn't sound great. Thought they were ment to be big screaming 'dont you dare nick me I'm marked' marks?

I had a grey freezemarked years ago and you couldnt really see it in the summer months. If your horse is Black,Bay,chestnut dark colours you should be fine.Im going to get my coloured horse done. Costs under £60.00

Got my piebald done.

Know a couple of people who've had their greys done and it's pretty much grown out on all. It is permenant and obvious in bays/chestnuts/blacks etc.

Think farmkey are the only people who do it? They're very good, travel to any area of the UK and aren't hugely expensive. Think it was #40 for a normal 4 diget number you're given or an extra #25 to have your own personalised number.

You can have it on the back, the shoulder or under the mane, on the left hand side. They don't reccomend having it on the neck as it's easily covered, but they will do it.

You shouldn't be marked down for showing - judges haven't mentioned my ponies, on his back.

They do hold the brand on for ages (good min for each seperate number/letter) and it seems to be uncomfortable although not sore. If you've got a difficult horse (like one of mine!) you might need sedation. My 2yr old stood nicely but got fidgetty towards the end. My idiotic horse wan't done as we didn't realise it took so long and he wasn't sedated. He will be soon.

If she's lame and therefore not ridden at present then it won't affect you, but the mark stayed scabby (though never sore) for a couple of weeks on my boy and there's no way I could have ridden him with a saddle (even if he had been broken

Opinions on each company vary, for instance, I mush prefer Freezemark, but really I don't think it makes much difference.

Unless you have a coloured, your choice of position is on the shoulder or the wither. The shoulder is the best place as it remains visible more. A grey HAS to be done on the shoulder, and needs to be clipped during the winter for visibility. Whether you can use your chosen digits will rely on if it is used and/or appropriate (in number of digits used.)

No, Frezemark.biz also do it and are actually the original company.

I had two of mine Freezemarked a few months ago and I am getting the other one done when the new one arrives next week.
I think it was about £45 each. Neither pony bothered while it was being done.
Took these pictures today, you can just see the Freezemark on her brown shoulder. It is obviously really clear close up. [image]http://
