Freezemarking and showing?

my old mare (now in horsey heaven

) did a lot of veteran showing and she was never marked down for having a freezemark.

No you shouldn't be officially marked down for it.

However they do detract a little from the overall appearance of the horse so if you can not ride for a short while it's worth having it done underneath the saddle where won't draw the judges eye, particularly if your horse doesn't have the perfect neck.

i did have a comment from a steward at a show that made me laugh- as i enter on the cob she smiles and says what a lovely freezemark!! It was a beautiful one so clean and crisp and stood out as he was black. It made me chuckle tho!!!

My friend had the same dilema, took her 2 years and a lot of convincing, she didn't want to mark her pony as she has a black pony, but now she says with all the thefts round us recently it was worth it. She would rather get marked down than loose her pony. However she doesn't get marked down and has just returned from the Royal London Show and did very well!

if you do, then the judge is quite frankly a moron - get your ned freezemarked!! I have seen horses at HOYS with a freezemark so I don't think it causes a problem!!
