As above - my cob is being freezemarked tomorrow.

I was going to get a horse- shoe mark done - it shows he is microchipped.

But - ive been told its better to get the traditional numbers done.

So im looking for opinions to help me decide -

he is a cob with very unique markings anyway - i just thought a small single horse shoe would be simple and quick therefore less stressful for my boy - and would ultimately look nicer.

What do you think - Ive more or less been told if he is stolen i have more chance of getting him back if he has a number - ie police etc dont carry microchip scanners?

What would you do?

I had a horse that had both. I purchased a horse that had a personalised mark which was GUL1 for Gulliver and also under his mane (almost where the chip was) a small horseshoe. So you could have both?

The point of having your horse freeze marked is to make them easier to trace. If this helps the police and other people recognize your horse then you should stick to the numbers.

You may think that your horse has unusual markings but unless you have a zebra...too non horsey people one brown horse looks like another!!!!

You could always go down the personalised route?

Good decision Narkymare. A horse who gets stolen with a hoofshoe mark on does not stand out like one with an individual freezemark number. Far easier for Joe Public as well as fellow horse owners to be able to recognise a horse from a unique number.
