Freezemarking. Where on the body do you do it?

Is there a 'best' place to put a freezebrand?

What is the most popular position? Are there positions that you shouldn't brand?

Personally, I would want it in the most visible place so that people could SEE the mark, therefore that would be on the shoulder or the neck, that is said as a non showing person, perhaps if I showed it would be a different matter, although here many, many horses are branded anyway.

Horses at the RS either have it on their shoulder (the majority do) and a few have it on their back, but only one or two.

I usually have it done on the shoulder. Apart from when rugged it is always visible - and less time off after marking.

I have mine done on the shoulder as it is a more visible deterent.

Mine have always been done on the shoulder, 2 days off and they are back in work. It is a 5 day lay off if the back is marked and there is an outside chance of problems so I wouldn't risk it.

Do they freezemark over here Enfys? I've never seen any freezemarked just hot-branded.

If I was freezemarking, I'd have it in the most prominent place; so either shoulder or thigh. My hot-branded horses have their brands on their thighs; can't miss them!

I don't know why they don't do thighs in general, but they do sometimes on coloureds if they can get a good dark area there. Interesting question.

I haven't seen any freeze branded horses here Tia, or heard about it (must ask, Cruiser will know) When I said that many horses were branded I should have clarified that it was hot branding.

It was a theoretical question really. None of mine are branded.
