How many people have there horses freezed marked??
I have had all my horses microchipped ecept my retired pony but only had one freezed marke.
What do people do about freezemarking show ponies?
I intended to show in harness my section A but will i get marked down for a freeze mark?Hes already chipped, i know you shouldnt get marked down but in reality do you?

Also if any one has a minture horse do you have them freeze marked i have not seen any minis with freeze marks tbh....

Thanks everyone :)

We had a heavyweight Cob who went to Royal London in 2009, was placed 4th out of about 16 in the ridden cob and 6th out of 20 in the coloured class with a freezemark, so no I don't think they get marked down. I've never had or heard any negative comments from judges.
All our ponies are freezemarked, and I wouldn't hesitate to get any new ones done. I think it's a huge deterrent to thieves, and if they do get stolen it's a lot easier for a member of the general public to read a combination of 4 letters or numbers to identify a horse rather than having to wait for someone to turn up with a microchip reader which may or may not be the right one for the type of microchip your horse has!

Little newforest in my sig is freezemarked, and she normally does really well inhand! Never been marked down for it (as far as i know) and no judges ever make comments on it so i asume they just ignore it :)

thanks for the replies,

im definately going to invest in some freeze marks then i was just worried about the showing but i guess these days a judge will look at it like most horses are getting freezemarked as a deterrant.

:)

I'm getting my whole yard done in the new year - they all microchipped already, but decided I want the addition of something outwardly visible

my minis are all done on the shoulder. They are never rugged and this way I can clip off over the mark in the winter without them getting wet through as they would if it was on the back. I wouldn't be without it as a deterrent especially with the little ones. I used |Freezemark ltd to do them as they do three didgets which fit on better than four.

All the horses are done, no exceptions. I have shown to a high level with a freezemarked pony and I really don't think it is a factor now. Even if it was I would still do it.

I use Freezemark.biz, partly because Mary has been dealing with my horses for 20 years now, and partly because they do 3 figure marks. Mine are all marked on the shoulder

Freezemark...no problems! I doubt very much that any judge in this current climate would mark down a horse because it was freezemarked!!

I showed my mare in Hunter classes years ago and not one judge every made a comment about her freezemark.

I had Cappy freeze marked by Farm key not the best I have ever seen. But not their fault. Cappy was an absolute *****, we think because he was hot branded and remembered that. They were excellent and very patient with him.

ETA- we did not have him hot branded, he is imported.

All our horses are freezemarked. No judge should be marking a horse down for an owner having taken this reponsible step to helping protect their horse. In fact their question should be why ISN'T this horse freezemarked IMHO.

Freezemark without a doubt. Less chance of them being stolen & if the worst should happen better chance of recovery & to me thats all that matters.

spoken to far too many owners of stolen horses (via Horsewatch) to EVER want to be in that situation.

All my horses since 1991 have been freezemarked. Stinky and Farra are also microchipped.

I show at county level and have never been dropped down for a freezemark and any judge who did should be shot.

Better to loose a ribbon than my horse and for those who say they are ugly, rather a small mark than an empty stable any day for me.

I had one older judge ask me what the funny mark on his back was : 'looks like writting?' (pips needs redone as his isn't very clear). When I explained the judge thought it was a fabulous idea and all horses should be done. No other judge even seems to notice.
