These dogs seem to be very popular in my area, but all seem to have docked tails.
Looking on line, one site says they are born without tails another that they do have tails.
So are they docked, and if so why because I thought it was illegal unless for working dogs etc

They're not docked, they're frequently born with tiny, non-existent or inverted tails. It's linked with hemivertebrae (congenital abnormalities of the spine) and is a direct consequence of breeding for a screw tail and a short, cobby body. It's seen in pugs and bulldogs also.

Yup it's basically a spine deformity. Which means they are more susceptible to other spinal problems including lose of use of their hind legs. One of a long list of health problems in these guys!

Thanks for the info,. I had one of these on my list for possible future dog, but may think again !

Oh, they're fabulous. Just do your homework and obviously look for health TESTED parents from responsible breeders. Oh, and of course you'll need deep pockets.....

Actually, no I wouldn't have one. Too many seem to get stolen 😣

Unfortunately really for them, they do have fab personalities but there are so many buts! As Amy says, dog theft is huge at the moment and even higher with Frenchies, including having people breaking into houses specifically for the Frenchie. Poorly bred and even illegally-smuggled Frenchies are very very common and will make up the majority of what is for sale on freelistings.

With health problems there's a very high chance the dog would need surgery on the nasal cavity so it can actually breath, as well as spinal problems and skin problems. You know all those "rare" blue Frenchies you may see and think looks cute? The blue fur gene can actually cause even more skin problems and is why it's not an approved KC breed colour.

If you really want a Frenchie, go to a reputable rescue (increasing amounts ending up in rescue), or go to a KC assured breeder who doesn't breed for the super flat face and expect to spend a small fortune.

I wouldn’t have one because of the amount of thefts. I’d be scared to take it out! The prices they are selling for is also ludicrous. I know of someone that bought two at £2k each! They took them home when they were 7wks too :( I did think, given the amount that breeder was making they could have at least insisted on keeping them another week.

That's awful! Might have been a dodgy breeder, or even a smuggler posing as a breeder with a fake house, fake family, even fake dog mum. When they can get upwards of 10k for a litter, they don't care.

Hi everyone,

We have a 8 month old french bulldog named, who we got at the beginning of November.
Initially we were feeding her the royal canine for bulldogs
But recently I’ve noticed our Lora hasn’t been eating enough. So now I’m afraid she’s losing weight.

Is there a better dog food or even raw diet I can switch to? I found some tips on feeding french bulldogs here , but I still need you recommendation on a better dog food I can switch to?

What has your vet said?

My two frenchies have Orijen original which I supplement with green beans and boiled chicken. They do well on this, one has a rather delicate stomach while the other seems able to eat anything!!
