Hey guys, I'm loaning my first ever horse next month at the moment he is ridden in a full-cheack snaffle I have never really liked these bits so I talked to the owner about changing it she said it was fine. I quite like the look of French Link, sweet iron snaffles can you tell me what you think about them and if there good bits or not? Thank you :)

You dont say if the bit you are using now is a nutcracker or french link snaffle? Also if the horse is happy in the bit why change it? Surely its the horses welfare thats paramount, not just because you dont like it? But to answer your question the french link snaffle is a nice soft bit. (as long as you dont rag on the reins)

Im not to sure as I haven't been able to have a look at it I've just seen it in his mouth. I know when he was with his owner they borrowed a French link snaffle then when they sent him to a dealer to sell on she put him in a full cheack and he doesn't seem to like it you have to be really gentle on his mouth the owners said he wasn't like that in the snaffle so for now I'm assuming it's the bit when it jabs him in the side.
So I am defo changing his bit but I want to find the best softest one possible as he is still very young and I don't want him to grow up with bad experiences when ridden. Do you think it worth putting bit guards on as well?
