I'm always seeing on the forum wanting information on French Stallions. Why don't people go direct to the Stud in France where Hand in Glove, Jaguar Mail & Alligator Fontaine stand - www.brullemail.com instead of going through an agent?

...................because if you contact Bernard le Courtois, he'll refer you to me, take you contact details and pass them on to me. The only problem, is that your enquiry will take about 24 hours longer to be dealt with, as Bernard might be busy and not deal with the enquiry immediately.

..................because if you want Jaguar Mail semen, it'll about ten days to get to you from France because the French actually bother with health papers. Whereas, we keep a large stock of all the stallions at Twemlows, and it can be with you in 24 hours. That's what the Americans call a no-brainer.

As with all our stallions we have a true exclusivity agreement with the owners. That way, they get great advertising (just look at the DPS's in Horse and Hound, the Chronicle of the Horse, Hunter and Sport Horse magazine and Horse Deals) and a lot of exposure, without the hassle of dealing direct.

The same applies to Zangersheide, who get direct calls/emails/orders. They just pass them on to me to deal with, or send out the semen and let me know they have. That's the benefit of proper contracts that mean something, and a proper relationship that benefits owner/agent and breeder.

Other benefits of dealing with Ken Rehill (that's me BTW), is that you can get hold of me from 8am to 10pm seven days a week, I speak fluent French and I'm a breeder.

Hi Ken

The semen that is already in the UK - do you sell it in £ or Euro?
If you sell it in Euro can I ask why? The exchange rate is getting worse every day, if in Euros your prices will be going up - hence why I am posing the question!

I have to pay the owner in Euros, thus the price is in euros. The other agents are having hell right now because they charge in £ and they are getting hit by the rate, or are having to up the £ price to the breeders. So, either you pay a higher price in £ or you pay in € but it costs more £ to buy those €. The result is the same.

Arhh thanks for the explaination. Didn't ocur to me that agents would raise the £ prices after the quoting a price at start of the season

But what that does mean is mainland European stallions are getting more expensive - another good reason to use British stallions this season

Well, it's a nice sentiment, but not really true.

British based stallion owners already want to kill me, but you need to ask yourself "how many British based stallions would be/are used in Mainland Europe?" It's a handful, and that's not because of a lack of promotion budget or promotional skills.

Before I get letter bombs, let it be known that at dinner on Saturday night, I recommended a total of five coverings to two different British based stallions to big clients of mine.

One point about price was made by the same clients. The odd three or four hundred euros on the price is nothing five years down the line when the four year old owes you £12000, if it means you get the perfect product.

It's a sensible way of thinking about things.

Thanks I guess I should go through you then if I choose a french stallion so how much extra do I have to pay you surely you charge a commission?

I am paid by the owners, the price you pay through me, is the same price as you'd pay if you were able to go through them. One or two charge an export price (brullemail being one example, Bernard sets the price, I obey) for the extra cost in transport and health papers etc.

To do otherwise would look a bit dodgy, people aren't stupid and the internet means you can find anything out in seconds. I prefer not to treat my client/potential clients as simpletons, they pay good money for my services and deserve quality in return.

Does anyone know anything about whether Pickachu de Muze (now jumping as Pikap under Billy Twomey with Kannan x Chin Chin) is available this year?

Ken can you supply frozen from Chin Chin or his descendants? I did actually e mail you several weeks ago re stallions. I didnt get a reply though. Running out of time for my 2 brood mares so will have to make a decision pretty quick.

Have you tried VDL Stud? I think that's where he stood until he died and his frozen semen is included on their price list. Not cheap though!

Hi, I'm shocked that I didn't get back to you, sorry. No one can get you Chin Chin semen, as now that he is dead and there is limited semen, you have to send your mare to VDL in Bears, sorry.

Send me your contacts to info@frenchstallions.org

I'm not aware that A Pikachu is available this year, but his father Kannan is.
