Hi!

Has anyone done Frensham sponsored ride here? If so, What is it like?
Looking at taking my 8yo out for his first sponsored ride, He can be a little fiesty but is generally a diamond, What is the course like?

Also, If anyone has done the 'ride with confidence' course also, as that might be a better option for us?!

Any thoughts appreciated!

I used to be lucky enough to keep my horse in the village it is held in. It is a mix of tracks and big open fields with optional jumps. Mostly people are considerate but is quite a fast ride. There's a couple of places that get a bit bunched up as ditches. It is good fun & some nice hills to go up. Would love to go again but have since moved away.

As others say, excellent hills, quite a number of jumps and great terrain, the bottle necks can be hairy - one was single file heading back and a couple of horses we caught up got v upset but by then there were at least15/16 riders for about 800yds or so. Another was an unmade single track vehicle lane which had horses going out (about a mile from start) and others heading back.

Def plan to go as early as possible, the worst times last year were an hour in (10.30 - 11.30) so we heard, having left at 9.35 and returned about 2 hrs 10 later. A few over excited horses greeted us on return, including a couple on their own. .....

We are swerving it this year and doing the fit or fat on 1st May instead :)

Absolutely loved it last year but as others have said it can get a bit fast and furious at times. Assuming my boy passes his vetting on Weds I'll be going again this year.

Have done it quite a few times, my favourite of all the sponsored rides I've done. It is fast, but very well organised, and every time I've done it, the other riders have all been great.

I have done it a few times but found there was a lot of people going slow so you got stuck behind people. That said, we do endurance so we do tend to trot or canter for miles on end. The jumps were lovely.

If I go again I would go early so not as many people to pass.

I haven't done it before but am doing it this year. Look out for one of the numerous hogged piebald cobs I'm sure there will be and a small lady holding on for dear life! :)

My daughter and a PC group have done the sponsored ride for probably about the last 10 years! It is one of the best locally and the land owner has recently revamped and increased many of the jumps (You can also hire the venue for Pony Club camps in the summer). About 1/2 way around is a pit stop where volunteers have food and drink. You can buy vouchers at the start so riders don't have to carry money. Once you've had your break the course resumes with the most wonderful gallop up a massive hill to a set of 3 fences on the flattened top (all fences are optional).

Love this ride. Course is great, jumps nice bigger and smaller options and a good steep hill to gallop up. Gets really busy so go either really early or much later. You will have a great time enjoy.. I am going to can't wait.

I love that hill! Even if these days I'm on foot struggling to climb up to the top so I can photograph the groups as they fly toward me. Great for the kids as they can really let pretty much anything go and know that it really will stop when it gets to the top....
